Manage the process of all truck repairs and maintenance in the region utilizing OD shops and vendors while ensuring the repairs are completed in a safe, efficient, timely, cost effective, practical manner. Maintain superior industry relations, be committed, and directly involved with the quality process, work in an efficient and economical manner and maintain a positive attitude.
Primary Responsibilities
- Monitor the performance of Old Dominion shops in the region and assist Corporate Maintenance to develop methods to increase shop productivity and efficiency
- Work closely with the shop manager to develop his/her skills
- Ensure timely completion of preventative maintenance on all OD equipment and audit work items/vouchers
- Work closely with outside vendors to ensure timely and quality repair of equipment while controlling associated costs and maintaining good working relationships
- Be available for urgent calls or emails outside of normal hours or workdays
- Provide information, advice, and direction to shop employees in the region and maintain positive morale among employees
- Lead by example, the company values and Service 2.OD
- Recruiting and retention of maintenance personnel in the region
- Maintain a high level of organization and cleanliness to promote a safe work environment within the region
- Work with OE representatives for technical, warranty, or policy questions
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship with OD operations personnel
Job Qualifications
Education:
- College degree or equivalent required
Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive shop management experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comprehension abilities
- Ability to complete required paperwork and records
- Working knowledge of most systems located on a truck/truck tractor, a semi-trailer or converter dolly
- Proficient at reading precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multi-meters, calibrators, and other electronic diagnostic tools understanding the results
- Ability to troubleshoot and do failure analysis of some of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the trailer or converter dolly (This requirement may not apply to body and frame specialists)
- Knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, OSHA, State and Local rules and regulations
- Willingness to participate in training classes offered and/or requested by the company and willingness to attend when the class is offered
- Willing to take written and/or oral tests to provide management with information to be used for management and classification
- Consistent with company policies, individuals are expected to maintain superior customer relations
- Willing to work on any piece of rolling stock and associated equipment as directed by the company
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and self-motivated
