The Region Engineer position at Waste Connections serves as a central and critical role in the success of the organization.  Waste Connections does not have an engineering silo, but instead, the technical professionals play a direct and material role in the operating, financial and development aspects of the firm.  The Region Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager for the Region and is a key business partner with the Division Vice Presidents and District Managers in the Engineer’s coverage area.

This position is based in the US heartland.  We can offer some flexibility in the Engineer’s home location, but it will need to be reasonably close to a regional airport and a Waste Connections District.  Some travel is required.  Typically, the Engineer will be remote less than two (2) days per week.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Serve the operating teams at multiple landfills and other waste management facilities across several states by leading and directing civil engineering and environmental projects of all kinds including renewable energy, cell development & phasing, permitting, building infrastructure, other land improvement, and environmental management systems.
  • Develop and promote innovations in material collection, processing and disposal systems to extract maximum value out of waste while protecting and enhancing the environment.
  • Engage directly with the Waste Connections operating and financial leaders to continually seek improvements in waste management operating efficiencies, while remaining true to our Number One Value, Safety.
  • Lead the development of capital budgets for the business units in your designated area through collaboration with the operating and financial leaders.  Manage capital project execution to the desired and expected business and financial outcomes.
  • Coach, train, and mentor field personnel in aspects of their work which may yield improvements in safety, compliance, and business performance.
  • Support the business unit leaders to ensure 100% compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years relevant industry working experience such as waste services, civil construction, or mining.
  • Minimum 4-year degree in civil engineering, or environmental services

Pay

Total Compensation (depending on experience) including base salary + bonuses: $135k - $170k
