PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Primarily responsible for maintaining, operating, inspecting, and repairing various types of ammonia refrigeration equipment for a poultry processing plant. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance; periodically tests and inspects to verify equipment is operating within manufacturer’s specifications and tolerances; troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs as needed. Performs all work in compliance with company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Independently manage the daily operations of the ammonia refrigeration compressor room; follow blueprints and diagrams to diagnose complex problems and repair units
- Take and record required system readings, understand the implications of variances; report to appropriate personnel/leader
- Identify root cause of complex mechanical system issues and repair or notify appropriate personnel if unable to complete
- Perform routine predictive and preventative maintenance on equipment as needed and/or scheduled
- Identify unsafe conditions; corrects or reports to appropriate personnel if unable to correct on own
- Direct the work of others and is a “go-to” for questions and concerns in relation to task performance in the absence of supervisor or superintendent at their direction
- Verify blueprint and operating manuals and procedures are current as needed
- Train entry level personnel
- Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test Level 1, 2 and 3 certified
- Pass NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test, Level 4 required
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in running, maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration equipment
- Intermediate math and computer skills
- Expert knowledge and understanding of all functions and components of ammonia refrigeration equipment
- Thorough knowledge of relevant electrical and general mechanical systems
- Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours
- Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Stand up to 8 hours.
- Lift up to 60 lbs.
- May be exposed to heat (99ºF, 37ºC) and cold (45ºF, 4ºC)
- Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
- Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.
- Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.)
- Work around raw, live animal odors
