Marathon Petroleum Company LP, a recognized leader in the energy industry, is accepting applications for a Refining Laboratory Technician position in its Illinois Refining Division's Laboratory in Robinson, IL. This position offers immediate responsibility and a generous benefit package. Shift work is required and overtime may be required as conditions warrant.
This position is NOT eligible for relocation.
Performs analytical testing with strict adherence to standard operating procedures, generating highly accurate and timely results.
Conducts routine tests, measurements analyses, and preparations in accordance with established methods and procedures. Operates laboratory equipment as part of testing requirements. Records results of the tests and arranges data for review and analysis. Completes routine calculations and reports.
Inputs, submits and receives computer data. Maintains computer databases, runs programs and enters sample and test information into a LIMS. Coordinates chain of custody forms, maintains documentation that samples are received in proper containers and at the required temperature, within the appropriate holding time.
Performs calibration and maintenance of equipment.
Provides quality control analyses on all intermediate streams and finished products of the refinery with high accuracy as well as technical support to the process.
Initiates certificates of analysis according to product specification requirements.
Drive a company vehicle to pick up and deliver samples.
Bachelor of Science Degree with a minimum of 16 hours of college credit in Chemistry from an accredited technical college or university.
A valid Driver's License.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Degree majoring in Chemistry.
Prior lab experience in petroleum application.
Understanding of SQC.
Experience with gas chromatography and wet chemistry.

Sample collection and material handling responsibilities of the role requires ability to lift 20 lbs.
SCHEDULE
Employees work a rotating Day/Night 12-hour shift schedule (DuPont), from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., includes weekends, holidays and overtime (required).
Pay range for position (reflects current pay rates, subject to increase):
Starting Rate: $35.50
Top Progression: $51.16
Position eligible for Annual Cash Bonus plan with a target of 7 - 14% of annual eligible earnings.
