Under general supervision, teach various levels of swimming, evaluate and communicate swimmers progress with the parents. Swim Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs children, youth and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques.
Teaches various levels of swimming, evaluates and communicate swimmers progress with the parents.
Tests and evaluates class participants.
Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or players, and/or customers.
Performs customer relations role which includes interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.
Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed
Swim Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.
Ability to work well with children, youth and adults.
Ability and willingness to work scheduled hours. Available shifts are variable and flexible.
Ability to have a clean and neat appearance.
Ability to demonstrate swimming at the standard for the American Red Cross learn to swim program.
Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to demonstrate tactful and effective communication skills.
Skills in effective interpersonal relations, including conflict resolution skills.
Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Previous experience working with children, youth and adults.
Two to Three (2-3) years of teaching experience
Current American Red Cross WSI certification or in process.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and Mental Effort: Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an aquatics environment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and/or support the weight of children while in water. Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and the public.
Work Environment: Works in both indoor and outdoor environments that are oftentimes impacted by chemical odors, weather and at times, unpredictable conditions.
Machines and Equipment Used: Uses various aquatics supplies and equipment, filtration systems, standard office equipment including personal computers, calculators and copy/fax machines daily. Ability to lift to a maximum of 50 lbs.
