This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $19.80/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
In this position you can expect to work on-site at one or multiple recreation centers throughout the city of Denver.
The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation's Active Older Adults (AOA) program engages adults ages 50+ in wellness, exercise, and leisure activities that support healthy aging. AOA programming includes aquatics, fitness, outdoor day trips, lunch trips, drop-in activities, clubs, arts & crafts, dance lessons, and more!
As a part-time Recreation Instructor with Active Older Adults, you’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Denver's active older adults while taking part in the fun!
Specifically, as a Recreation Instructor supporting Active Older Adult programs, you will:
Assist full-time staff in planning and implementing programs
Maintain a safe, fun, and trusting program environment for all participants
Work directly with recreation center staff to aid in facilitation of programs
Execute instructional plans using prescribed and accepted teaching methods for group and individual instruction
Evaluate and communicate student/participant progress to all appropriate staff
Review completed program participant evaluation tools, using findings to increase program and instructional effectiveness
Assist in the organization and coordinating of special events
Perform various tasks to provide program administrative support
Drive a small bus to transport participants on trips
We are looking for knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructors who can provide engaging programming with an eye for safety and fun! Our team members are passionate and caring individuals who are looking to make connections and foster the well-being of our active older adults’ community.
Our ideal candidate will possess:
Experience facilitating or assisting in the day-to-day operations of an organized recreation program
Experience working directly with older adults (ages 50+) in recreation programming or a related field
Willingness to obtain authorization to drive an Active Older Adults participant transport vehicle (Mini-Bus)

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in assisting in the operation and instruction of organized recreation activities
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
Licensure/Certification: Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within six (6) months of date of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment. Requires a valid driver’s license at the time of application. (Employees may be eligible to drive department/city vehicles for transportation and subject to motor vehicle record check and required to pass a city sponsored driver safety training course.)
