Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
Assisting with Restorative Dining during meal services ;
Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution
or Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that is equivalent to the diploma, degree or certificate
Skills and experience in a health care or similar setting
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, care planning, resident assessments, implementation, and evaluation for geriatric population especially those cognitively impaired is preferred
Experience with an older adult population an asset
Strong customer and resident service skills.
Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset
Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks
Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Activity Pro and Point Click Care
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
Must provide proof of a 2 step TB test
