R&D Chemist – Specialty Coatings

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Speciality Coating R&D Department at Jotun Performance Coatings is seeking a proactive and curious R&D Chemist to join our dedicated team at our global headquarters in Sandefjord. In this role, you will be part of the group working with Speciality Coatings products for Marine and Protective market segments. You will conduct early phase R&D on coating materials and translate new ideas into structured development activities.

You will work closely with colleagues across R&D, Marketing and Sales, helping to shape the future direction of our Specialty coatings portfolio. This is an opportunity to influence innovative processes, build technical expertise, and contribute to solutions used by customers worldwide.

The position will be located at our headquarters in Sandefjord, Norway.

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for assigned projects or tasks and follow up towards stakeholders to ensure that the quality satisfies the requirements and are according to relevant procedures and regulations.

  • Execute required projects and tasks by e.g. planning, formulating, testing, and evaluating results and raw materials in consultation with Manager/Senior colleagues and according to procedures and plans.

  • Report results of work both orally and written to ensure that the correct decisions, based on current experience, are made.

  • Search for and make use of knowledge through literature, practical experience, learning from others as well as attending courses to be able to work more independently with more complex projects and tasks.

  • Knowledge and use of the necessary HSEQ procedures, safety equipment and safety documentation; and taking into consideration general safety.

  • Attend to the daily order so that the workspace is tidy, safe, and pleasant.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND WHAT WE OFFER

Required Qualifications

  • MSc or higher in Chemistry, Material Sciences or relevant Physics field. (BSc. with relevant research experience could also be considered).

  • Ability to successfully lead research projects.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficient in verbal and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of relevant analytical techniques and instrumentation is an advantage (Spectroscopy, thermoanalytical techniques, etc.).

  • Proficiency with MS Office 365.

  • Experience with high-temperature material applications is an advantage.

  • A high level of data literacy is an advantage (statistics, visualization, modelling, data structuring, etc.)
