Purpose of the Role
The Business Operations Manager (Japan) will provide operational, logistical, and process leadership to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of R&D Japan’s operations. This role is critical for maintaining a centralized model under Portfolio & Operations Excellence (POE), avoiding the inefficiencies of the previous decentralized approach, and leveraging global operational and financial synergies.

Reporting Structure
• Primary Reporting: Direct reporting to Head of Portfolio Delivery & Excellence Japan, dotted line to POE (Strategic Externalization & Business Operations team).
• Local Alignment: Works closely with Head of R&D Japan and leadership team to meet Japan-specific business needs.

Core Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
o Drive process optimization across R&D Japan functions (budgeting, resource planning, objectives tracking).
o Ensure timely and accurate budget/resource utilization reporting for decision-making.
2. Business Operations & Governance
o Support outsourcing, procurement, and vendor management in alignment with POE standards.
o Maintain compliance with global and local CSL policies and regulatory requirements.
3. Performance Management
o Track progress against annual objectives and provide regular updates to leadership.
o Collaborate with enabling functions (Finance, HR, IT) for integrated solutions.
4. Digital Transformation
o Partner with IT and functional heads to promote digitalization of business processes.
o Utilize tools like SAP, SharePoint, and analytics platforms for operational excellence.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
o Act as liaison between Japan R&D and global Business Operations Network.
o Ensure synergy with similar roles globally and alignment with POE initiatives.

Expected Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
• Experience: 3–7 years in business operations, project management, or outsourcing within R&D or pharma.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of SAP/financial systems, vendor governance, and global project management.
• Competencies: Analytical thinking, stakeholder management, and ability to drive process improvements.
