Heidelberg Materials is seeking a motivated and safety‑focused Rail Operative to support efficient, compliant, and high‑quality operations across our site. This is a hands‑on operational role where you will work with mobile and static plant, contribute to site safety, and ensure excellent service delivery to both internal and external customers.
Purpose of the Role
Operate mobile and static plant safely, professionally, and in accordance with your certification.
Carry out general maintenance tasks as required by Heidelberg Materials.
Support operational duties across the main processing plant as directed by Site Management.
Ensure high standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility at all times.
Key Accountabilities
Maintain mobile and static plant, including refuelling, greasing, and cleaning, in line with manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials guidelines.
Operate all plant equipment in the most efficient and economical manner.
Complete daily plant inspection sheets accurately.
Report defects or operational issues to the General Foreman promptly.
Submit near‑miss reports and actively support a proactive safety culture.
Provide excellent service to internal customers, including concrete and asphalt divisions.
Job Requirements
Experience & Skills
Experience operating mobile plant.
Ability to follow health and safety procedures and company policies.
Knowledge of, and adherence to, the Quarry Regulations 1999.
Awareness of environmental responsibilities aligned with Company Environmental Policy.
Basic IT skills for record‑keeping and reporting.

Ensure all work is performed responsibly and with integrity, preventing fraudulent activity.
Work in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Company Safety Policy, and all relevant legislation.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge required for effective job performance and attend training as necessary.
Follow all HR policies and procedures consistently and professionally.
Education & Qualifications
Good general education to meet the requirements of health and safety and quarry regulations.
MPQC certification to operate mobile plant (essential).
NVQ Level 2 in Mobile Plant Operations (required following MPQC completion).
