Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the incumbent may perform some or all of the listed general administration functions. These functions are of high complexity and the incumbent performs them using general instruction.
Duties and responsibilities:
Manages recruitment kiosks alone or with a team member, off campus and on campus, online and in-person, at higher education fairs hosted by high schools located in the Greater Montreal area as well as in-person student panels, information sessions and "Talk with a McGill student" sessions.
In collaboration with the McGill Admissions and Recruitment team, participates in on-campus and virtual recruitment events for prospective students from Québec high schools and CEGEPS as well as their families and guidance counselors.
Answers questions about Québec student admissions requirements.
Hosts virtual and in-person campus tours for the public and for VIP guests (country delegates, government officials, donors, etc.).
Represents McGill as the first point of contact at the Welcome Centre.
Greets and advises prospective students on the University (programs, admissions (all pools), legal documents, campus life, tuition, Montreal life, etc.) with a knowledgeable and positive attitude.
Provide administrative support of recruitment activities and events (set up and take down of signs, manage kiosk, provide written feedback on event, equipment and furniture, data entry, etc.).
Conducts research via social media and internet searches. Participates in social media campaigns and events (ex. Instagram, Facebook and YouTube). Some video and photo editing may be required.
Provides administrative support at the Welcome Centre by answering phones, responding to e-mails, and assisting in various administrative tasks. Using technology and software to perform duties and responsibilities.
The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbent may be asked to perform some elements of Communications Assistant level “A” and/or “B” in addition to the above listed functions.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Have graduated from a French High School and/or French CEGEP. Bilingual: spoken and written French and English. Undergraduate student currently enrolled at McGill in Arts, Education, Engineering, Management, Music, Nursing or Science are welcome. General knowledge of the downtown campus and student life. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills - must be outgoing, willing to engage and initiate conversations with students and their families / able to adapt quickly to situations (ex: construction on campus). Extremely reliable and punctual. Involvement in the McGill community (clubs, services, athletics, or other university activities) an asset. Customer service and social media experience an asset. Additional languages (Spanish, Mandarin) an asset. Work study applicants must provide proof of program acceptance.
