Position Summary
The Quality Engineer supports the plant Quality Management System (QMS) and drives data-based problem solving across manufacturing processes. This role ensures compliance to ISO standards, leads corrective actions, supports audits, and analyzes process performance to reduce variation and improve product quality.
This position is hands-on in the plant and works closely with production, engineering, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
QMS & Compliance
- Support and maintain the site QMS in accordance with ISO 9001 (and applicable 14001/45001 requirements).
- Maintain and update quality procedures, work instructions, and controlled documents.
- Participate in internal audits; identify gaps and drive corrective action closure.
- Support external audits (customer, corporate, certification body).
Corrective Action & Problem Solving
- Lead structured root cause investigations (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, A3).
- Drive containment, corrective, and preventive actions for internal and customer nonconformances.
- Verify effectiveness of implemented actions.
- Track and report status of corrective actions.
Process Monitoring & Analysis
- Establish and maintain control charts on key process characteristics.
- Differentiate common-cause vs. special-cause variation and apply appropriate response.
- Monitor process capability (Cp/Cpk) and drive improvement where needed.
- Analyze quality data (scrap, rework, complaints, batch variability) to identify trends.
APQP & Change Management
- Support APQP activities including Process Flow, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
- Assist with PPAP documentation when required.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) to ensure risks are evaluated and documented before implementation.
Supplier & Incoming Quality
- Support supplier quality activities including incoming inspection criteria and supplier corrective actions.
- Review COAs and ensure raw materials meet defined requirements.
Customer Quality
- Support customer claim investigations with data-driven analysis.
- Prepare reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in WCM/Lean initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce variation, improve capability, and simplify quality processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Chemistry, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality role.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and internal audit processes.
- Experience with SPC, control charts, and capability analysis.
- Experience leading corrective actions.
- Proficient in Excel; experience with statistical software preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
