Airbus Americas, Inc is looking for a Quality Engineer II to join our team based in Mobile, AL.
As a Quality Engineer II at the Mobile A220 Final Assembly Line, you will drive the resolution of complex quality issues and lead continuous improvement projects. By establishing rigorous quality standards and identifying strategic enhancements, you will optimize:
Process performance and product compliance with standards
Process reliability
Process repeatability, commencing at the initial design phase, prior to any process modifications, and continuing throughout the product life cycle.
The role involves ensuring the conformity of products/services to specified customer requirements, and supporting the timely and cost-effective delivery of quality outputs by delivering right first time to enhance customer loyalty.
The Quality Engineer II leads swift root-cause investigations into quality issues reported by business and airline customers. Serving as the primary focal point for problem-solving, this role manages high-visibility, cross-functional teams to ensure timely closure and the long-term effectiveness of all preventative actions. A critical component of this position is delivering high-quality presentations that detail investigation findings for both executive leadership and customer stakeholders.

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:
Analysis of aircraft manufacturing and technical non-conformances and customer snags to identify repetitive and impactful problems across multiple perimeters (stations/MFTs) and provide coaching to other Quality Engineers in the team.
Facilitate and lead practical problem solving root cause investigations of low to medium and high complexity with the MFT, to rapidly identify root cause and containment actions (including line checks and Customer Protection Boards), across multiple perimeters (stations/MFTs).
Coordinate containment, corrective and preventative actions with MFT function members to ensure swift effective implementation, across multiple perimeters (stations/MFTs).
Application of, and A220 Mobile owner/focal point for one or more Quality standards including APQP, FMEA, KC/CTI, Control Plans, Metrology/MSA, Process Capability/SPC, PPS/9S, across multiple perimeters (stations/MFTs).
Act as a problem solving specialist for A220 Mobile site, using advanced problem solving methodologies such as 8D/9S, Kepner Tregoe, or Shainin.
Support FOD prevention initiatives and measures, across multiple perimeters (stations/MFTs).
Creation of high quality presentations to communicate investigations, MFTs, management, and customers.
Creation of Quality flash alerts/memos to alert MFTs of Quality topics.
Interface with Supply Chain organization to feedback supplier driven non-conformities and quality escapes, and confirm containment actions are implemented.
Contribute to supplier First Article Inspections, and provide feedback.
Support airline Customer Delivery MFT to present Quality topics to airline representatives.
Your Boarding Pass:
Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering or similar discipline, or equivalent experience is required.
Minimum 5 years' experience in Manufacturing / Quality / Lean Management / Quality Inspection or similar discipline, preferably with an international aerospace company in aircraft manufacturing.
Familiar with lean methodologies and processes.
Strong and effective Problem Solving skills, and ability to direct and facilitate PPS/9S, and track progress to completion.
KPI and pareto understanding.
Knowledge of FOD and product safety processes preferred.
High degree of flexibility and initiative.
Strong communication skills through all levels of the organization and functions.
Strong presentation skills.
Ability to independently develop, communicate, and recommend change to processes and procedures.
Preferred:
Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing preferred.
Travel Required
Periods of infrequent travel. Up to 10% domestic and international.
Physical Requirements:
Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interaction.
Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
Equipment Operation Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.
Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 30lbs/14kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/14kg.
Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time. Working outside hangers in changing locations.
Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
