Job Summary:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining good vendor/customers relationship by maintaining and developing all aspects of the production quality operating system, ensuring appropriate product development support through change control/ launch and ensuring all systems/criteria shall be developed, documented, and maintained to ensure consistent quality assurance.
Quality Engineer Job Responsibilities:
- Attend program meetings (SDT, ECO-ECR) as the primary plant representative.
- Prepare PPAP/ SREA submissions for customers. Coordinate with venders, materials and production to insure effective, on-time implementation.
- Understand all aspects of the build process including PFMEA, Control Plan, Operator Instructions (ODS), Operator Training (EIS), Error-Proofing, Critical and Significant Characteristics and the modes to improve these in order to provide world class seating products to our customers. Manage accuracy and updates of the Control Plan as required.
- Investigate, develop, trial and implement value-added vendor and process changes according to plan to improve efficiency, reduce variance and eliminate waste.
- Coordinate build quality of engineering development samples to verify proposed changes.
Quality Control & Supporting Report-Out
- Monitor assembly operations to determine compliance with customers’ statistical process control requirements maintaining the process within specification limits and established control limits.
- Create and maintain trend charts for end of line inspection data, analyze and promote identification and resolution of top issues.
- Support daily gate board, KPI and month-end operational meetings as directed by Quality Manager including supporting reports.
- Conduct audits (product, process, material and compliance) as needed to insure employees and equipment are in compliance with production intent and to ensure employees comply with all company rules/policies/practices relative to quality and delivery.
- Develop and/or approve appropriate forms for process, inspection, containment and data acquisition operations. Develop and support report out of these measures in summary reports such as trend, Paytner, control and other SPC charts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, conduct efficient and thoughtful problem solving and verify product compliance/ quality improvement by utilizing various objective measurement, quality and analysis tools.
- Show leadership in problem solving and resolution of production issues; analyzing and providing timely resolution of material and/or internal process problems which may cause an interruption of world-class product delivery to our customers.
- Maintains up-to-date open issues lists for all customer concerns (warranty, survey, OE plant) as well as internal concerns found by the liaison, at the end of line inspection and/or during build.
- Provide proper judgment in communication and elevation of critical concerns both within BWI and with Customers when required.
- Has the authority to stop the production process if a quality or safety concern is noticed.
- Customer Interface
- Promote positive communications between quality, plant, corporate and customer personnel.
- Attend customer meetings as directed to report out status of current issues including warranty and plant concerns.
- Assist with the training of the Quality Technicians and Quality Liaisons and oversee their output to ensure appropriate, timely accomplishment of work objectives.
- Develop understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques within the organization and serve as facilitator in assuring proper use of these techniques throughout manufacturing.
- Manage and approve containment staffing level and time sheets.
- Performs other duties deemed necessary by the Quality Manager
Education Required:
- Four-year degree in Engineering a related technical area and/or equivalent in work experience.
- ASQ quality certification considered an asset
Experience Required:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in quality in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiar with ISO 14001, TS 16949 and QS9000 Standards.
- Statistical quality control methodology and experience using SPC software.
- Controller and/or lab equipment experience preferred.
- Quality Audit experience preferred.
- Customer quality system experience preferred
- Must possess a strong working knowledge of computers and applications such as Outlook, Internet Explorer, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
