Location/Division Specific Information:
This is a fully onsite role within the QC Department, Basingstoke. We are part of the Microbiology Division. Supplying the customer a culture you can trust with a range of products ranging from the clinical microbiology, through to food microbiology and veterinary microbiology.

How Will You Make an Impact?:

This role safeguards product quality and consistency by performing precise microbiological testing and ensuring compliance with strict standards and procedures, giving customers confidence that every product they purchase meets the highest quality standards due to robust testing and sound decision-making.

A Day in the Life:

Carry out Quality Control Testing in accordance with Oxoid test specifications and methods. This will include but is not limited to:

  • Testing products in accordance with our methods and SOPs

  • Media preparation

  • Completing OOS reports and assisting with investigations

  • Training records recorded and maintained

  • Plan, track and control the progress of products under test, and provide accurate availability dates to planning and customer services

  • Alerting senior personnel of product problems/failures and assist with further investigation

  • Ensure all test results are recorded within the SAP Quality Management System

  • Cleaning, waste management, consumable replenishing and use of autoclaves

  • Ensure processes and procedures are carried out in line with the laboratory and company Quality Systems

  • Taking direction from the QC Team Leader, Lead Scientist and Senior Scientist regarding prioritization of finished product and raw material testing

  • Engage in continuous improvement using PPI lean methodology including standard work and tier meetings. Use PPI processes to tackle problems and improve departmental and business processes

  • Role-model the Thermo Fisher 4I Values and use as a day-to-day guide in decision making

  • To fulfill the responsibilities of the position as defined in the Oxoid Health, Safety and Environmental policies and associated Codes of Practice



Education:

Required: Level 6 educational qualification or equivalent in Microbiology or related subject

Preferred: Experience in a microbiology field or similar field without a qualification would also be considered.


Experience:
Required: Minimum of 2 years of work experience in QC or related field
Preferred: Experience in a cGMP environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Significant experience of QC testing within a microbiology laboratory environment, with key laboratory skills of pipetting, swabbing, streaking and plate pouring.

  • Decision Quality - High attention to detail and a systematic approach.

  • Drive for Results - Delivering consistent results by being willed to take action, demonstrating interpersonal agility, planning efficiently and setting priorities.

  • Good numeracy skills, and ability to read and follow methods / SOPs accurately.

  • Composure – Able to remain calm and work methodically under pressure.

  • Problem Solving - Effective in technical and organizational troubleshooting to root cause.

  • Communicates openly crafting collaborative relationships by developing strong work relationships, displaying integrity and building trust across functions.
