Position Summary / Career Interest:
The position of Pulmonary Function Technician has an educational background in respiratory therapy with specialized training in pulmonary function diagnostics. Performs routine and specialized pulmonary function tests, calibrates and maintains equipment to manufacturer and department standards, and cleans and disinfects equipment and surfaces to hospital and department standards.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Perform pulmonary function tests (spirometry, lung volumes, lung diffusing capacity, arterial blood gas draws, six-minute walk test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, and other tests as specified) according to ATS and department standards.
- Perform user maintenance on equipment and perform calibrations on equipment according to manufacturer and department procedures. Trouble-shoot equipment malfunction and take appropriate action to bring equipment back to operational standards.
- Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes cardiopulmonary equipment according to hospital and department standards for infection control.
- Performs regular administrated tasks of the pulmonary function lab including patient scheduling, registration, and telephone support.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience- Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited college or university OR equivalent military training program
Preferred Education and Experience- 2 or more years experience in respiratory therapy or completed practicum in pulmonary function testing as part of respiratory therapy curriculum OR
- 1 or more years experience in full-service pulmonary function lab
Required Licensure and Certification- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - State Board of Healing Arts from the state of Kansas or Missouri upon Hire
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 1 Year
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 Days
