Major Duties:

  • Assists the Health Promotion Director/Coordinator in education, development, and program implementation for the elements of the Semper Fit health promotion program to include: physical fitness and activity, injury prevention, nutrition, obesity and weight control, substance abuse, mental health, sexual behavior and disease management. Conducts educational training and informational briefs on health promotion elements to include physical fitness and activity, injury prevention, nutrition, obesity and weight control, substance abuse, mental health, sexual behavior and disease management. Assists in the development of lesson materials. Makes revisions for educational materials and blocks of instruction. Reviews materials for accuracy of information and conformance to regulations, directives and guidance. Coordinates with health officials and the Health Promotions Specialist/Coordinator to exchange information on health education training for the designated topics. Maintains awareness of technical changes in subject matter related to the health promotion program elements to update materials, and present accurate and appropriate content. Contacts appropriate subject matter experts and authorities and reviews references to gather proper educational content. Plans presentations, writes informational columns, and maintains bulletin boards and informational kiosks on the designated health promotions elements. Assists in coordination of the health promotion program in conjunction with experts from offices such Occupational Health, the Safety Office, and the Employee Assistance Program. May assist in establishing an annual calendar for scheduled activities in support of health promotion. May conduct fact finding contact with supervisors, NCOICs and unit commanders. Coordinates with health officials and the Health Promotions Specialist/Coordinator to exchange information on health education training and collaborate on promoting effective health and wellness programming. May obtain letters of appointment of Semper Fit Officers. May act as a member of local disease control committee. Establishes a collaborative network to implement and promote health promotion programs/activities at the unit level. Answers telephones and receives visitors to provide assistance in response to inquiries. Refers callers to appropriate contacts depending on subject matter. Participates in coordination of arrangements for events such as informational briefs, health promotion activities, and classes. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Take action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in public health, health promotion, health education, school health, community health or related health degree from an accredited college or university. Three years of experience within the public health industry. Shall possess health education certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization or be eligible to take the examination such as the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or the Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist (PAPHS). Competence in public speaking, professional writing for public awareness and computer literacy. Certification in CPR and first Aid, or ability to become certified within the first six months of employment.
