Job Summary: This position is located in the Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Medical Center, in Winter Park, FL (1) OR Daytona Beach, FL (1). The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of functions, including providing customer service, answering phones, receiving walk-ins, answering emails, responding to questions, ensuring patients records are complete, and receipt and delivery of packages.

Major Duties:

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities will include: Provides patient care/support services via telephone calls and patient visitors. Schedules patient appointments, authorize patient travel, and completes forms and referrals. Receives and analyzes Prosthetics consults and prescription for items, services, and home medical equipment from physicians and other clinical services. Examines clinical health records, claim folders, and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services, determines patient eligibility for prosthetic appliances and services, and advises patient of the same. Distributes stock to eligible patients and posts stock issues to the automated prosthetic programs. Uses a variety of office automation equipment (e.g., computer, word processor, facsimile machine, keyboard and visual display equipment, telephones; etc.) to effectively communicate with others, produce forms, complete correspondence, and enter data used for reports. Utilizes proficient knowledge of prosthetic appliances and services to instruct patients, family members, and caregivers on the proper use, safety, and maintenance of the equipment. Maintains and documents medical records and detailed accounting of all actions taken for patients. Performs other duties as necessary. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ~AND~ To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is: using a variety of office automation equipment (e.g., computers, word processors, facsimile machine, telephones; etc.) to effectively communicate with others, produce forms, complete correspondence, and enter data used for reports; carrying out a variety of advisory and technical administrative functions. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled.
