As a Propulsion Test Engineer you will join a team of engineers and technicians performing development, qualification and acceptance tests of subcomponents of liquid rocket engines and integrated subsystems of our Spectrum rocket.You will participate in test operations at the production site in Ottobrunn (Bavaria, Germany) and at the test site in Reischach (Bavaria, Germany)for gas generators, subscale engines and turbopumps. In addition to test operations, you will conduct maintenance activities and upgrades on the existing test rigs, as well as designing and building test set-ups to cover ad-hoc needs. You will work in tight-knit teams to ensure safe and efficient operations, while closely cooperating with the design engineers to enable fast iterations and timely delivery of hardware.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
Plan, prepare and execute tests, process data, and write reports
Take care of test preparations
Develop and maintain internal test standards, procedures and sequences
Participate in maintenance activities and troubleshooting on existing test benches
Assist in designing test rigs and laying out sensors
Designing and building test set-ups for ad-hoc testing needs
Qualification Checklist
B.Sc / M.Sc in the field of aerospace, mechanical engineering or similar
Hands-on experience in development or testing of complex systems, preferably involving extreme operating conditions such as cryogenic temperatures, high pressures, or high temperatures
Experienced in test data acquisition, reduction and evaluation
Capable of designing fluid and mechanical systems from theoretical concept to precisely dimensioned installations
Experience and curiosity about troubleshooting
Physical dexterity is required for working in confined spaces as necessary. Able to lift and carry approx. 20 kg loads
Willingness to work outdoors
Ability to perform in high-stress environments, maintaining focus and concentration for long durations
Adapting sufficiently and quickly to a changing work environment
High quality and safety mindset paired with a high attention to detail and can-do attitude
Communicate actively and openly in a constructive manner
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
EU category B driving license
Bonus Skills
Hands-on experience with fluid systems and piping/tubing
Experience with instrumentation for test systems
Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Matlab, C, C#…)
Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, …)
Knowledge of cryogenic fluid rocket propulsion systems
Knowledge of hazardous systems (cryogenic, flammable, explosive or similar)
