Cornell University

Project Manager

Ithaca (Main Campus) Full time

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research seeks a Project Manager to help develop, implement, and maintain a suite of programs and activities. Working directly with the Interim Vice Provost for Research, this new position will provide critical project leadership to and coordination of Cornell’s new Future of Farming Initiative (CFFI), the Postdoctoral Program, Alternative Funding Panels, and other programs based in the Vice Provost’s office. Well qualified candidates will understand research areas across Cornell University and will demonstrate success with interdisciplinary and cross-institutional project management.

This is a new position open to Cornell employees who have completed six months of service in their current positions, individuals on the layoff list, and dual career candidates.

The Opportunity

As lead Project Manager for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, you will utilize your project management skills in support of and service to Cornell’s vision, mission, and values, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to strategic goals. You will manage and lead finance, budgeting, planning, and facilities functions for multiple programs. You will monitor progress toward established goals, compile data, schedule and facilitate meetings, coordinate preparation of reporting, and guide annual reviews. You will advise leadership on activities potentially affecting program scope or compliance, and you will serve as a tactful and effective advocate for program needs.

Your program oversight also will encompass communications and engagement efforts. Through your broad knowledge of these programs, you will prepare strategic communications, project updates, and presentations and will support engagement with review committees, unit leaders, researchers and administrators, and other constituencies through websites, newsletters, and other communications channels.

Through interpretation and implementation of university policies, procedures, and best practices, you will plan and review programs and recommend modifications necessary for operational success. Moreover, you will partner with the Interim Vice Provost and the Associate Vice Provosts for Research to understand the needs of Cornell researchers and ensure robust program offerings are available to meet those needs.

As part of the Cornell community, you will help foster a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

Send us a cover letter and resume outlining your interest in this position and explaining how your experience and qualifications match the position requirements. Your letter is an important component of your application.
