Job Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for all engineering and technical disciplines involved with capital projects and production-related issues. The engineer will schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from conception to completion and meet plant performance goals. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, agile, and adept at managing multiple engineering assignments simultaneously.

Essential Duties

  • Interface with production and maintenance to ascertain and identify operating and maintenance problems. Conduct an engineering analysis and follow through with significant project recommendations and improvements.

  • Mentor other engineers on sound engineering principles and designs

  • Proactively identify engineering problems or opportunities and apply technical expertise to develop and present feasible solutions. Solutions must be safe, simple, standardized, speedy, satisfactory, and sustainable.

  • Coordinate between contractor and company to accomplish capital engineering projects most smoothly and efficiently without causing production delays or upsets.

  • Ensure contractors are safely performing work and adhering to site safety requirements. Determine the relevant safety policy for the scope of work and issue safe-work permits to the contractor daily.

  • Provide input and make suggestions for future projects and their prioritization to the business based on factors associated with safety, productivity, and cost.

  • Manage project budgets and be accountable for delivering projects on time and budget.

  • Work closely with accounting and purchasing departments to ensure total financial accountability for assigned projects, from the procurement of materials/tools to project closure.

  • Forecast potential budget changes and provide information about changes in input costs, material costs, or project length/complexity.

  • Assist in process and product development and testing new products to ensure they meet test standards for UL and ETL.

  • Utilize safety systems, including Lock/Tag/Verify, permitting, and behavior-based safety programs.


Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment OR consulting engineering background, including process improvement and capital project management.


General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Build strategic working relationships with the engineering team, maintenance, tool and die makers, and production

  • Professional/Technical knowledge & skills related to multi-discipline engineering and a willingness to grow

  • Able to communicate technical knowledge/skills

  • Strong decision-making skills

  • Proficient in using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems

  • Knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools, such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), process capability studies, lean manufacturing, 5S, Kepner Tregoe, and/or Design of Experiments (DOE)

  • Advanced proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatics

  • Ability to execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget

  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask


Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in CAD Development software

  • Strong project management skills acquired with either demonstrated project management experience (managing multiple complex projects), formal project management training/certification (such as a PMP certification), or a proven track record of actively participating in critical roles of capital projects with positive results.

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $112,000-$154,000
