Summary:

Independently supports the Engineering department by providing project engineering services and mentorship for infrastructure and site improvement projects. The Project Engineer runs multiple concurrent capital projects of varying scope and complexity, typically up to and exceeding $1 million, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective execution. This position leads various project teams, collaborates with internal collaborators and external partners, and ensures successful completion from start to handover in accordance with site standards and top engineering methodologies.

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide project engineering and management services for capital and infrastructure projects supporting manufacturing, utilities, and facility operations.
  • Lead the full project lifecycle including scope development, cost estimation, design coordination, scheduling, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and turnover documentation.
  • Develop project execution strategies, risk assessments, and cost controls to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, contractors, and operators to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Support design development through creation and review of engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
  • Manage vendor selection, bid evaluation, fabrication oversight, and field installation in collaboration with Procurement and EHS.
  • Lead commissioning and Installation Qualification (IQ) activities; provide technical support for Operational Qualification (OQ) and Performance Qualification (PQ) phases as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements including FDA, EPA, and OSHA.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, standardization, and implementation of best practices.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Engineering and site initiatives.

Supervision:

Leads multidisciplinary project teams and manages third-party contractors and engineering service providers as required. May mentor less-experienced engineers.

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical).

Experience:

5+ years’ experience managing capital projects.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Competencies:

The preferred level of competency could generally be obtained through a BS in a specified Engineering discipline Knowledge of regulatory requirements which include FDA, EPA, and OSHA; engineering project management principles and a knowledge of engineering codes; knowledge of accounting/finance principals is preferred.
