Job Summary: The incumbent serves as the Automated Data Processing Applications Coordinator, (ADPAC) to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Mental Health Service. The position is located under the guidance of the Supervisory Program Specialist, Mental Health Service. The incumbent will perform a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of multiple Mental Health Programs.

Major Duties:

  • Some of the duties include, but are not limited to: Selectee will be responsible for ensuring patches are loaded that effect packages. Selectee is responsible for auditing data and performing data validation studies, working with other Services, Fiscal (DSS) staff for workload information, procedures and statistics. Collects and analyzes information about the ADP Program's impact on workload of day to day operations and recommends (verbally and in writing) adjustments as needed for implementation of new program, solutions to problems, etc. Incumbent advises management of trends and problem areas. Selectee works with IMS in installing, maintaining, upgrading this software and testing patches. Will serve as the Mental Health Service reference point for troubleshooting/maintaining personal computer hardware and software for new and existing MH Service employees throughout the VA Healthcare System and off-site locations such as the PRRC and the Mental Health Intensive Case Management/RANGE Programs. Provides training to supervisors, and others as requested on computer and web applications and their interrelated programs. Reviews problems reported with regard to Mental Health Service Programs to determine what action is necessary to correct the problem(s). Aids in documentation and resolution of software problems with information Management Service (IMS). Utilizes the National Online Information System (NOIS) and Local Online Information System (LOIS) to report software technical problems to IMS and Customer Service. Will receive, review and evaluate all requests for access to data with Patient Information Management System (PIMS) and Mental Health Service Program options. Will conduct feasibility studies, review historical and statistical data and meet with the appropriate personnel to develop the request. Will decide if the computer application requested is appropriate and feasible. Review Service employee menu options to ensure access is limited to job responsibilities and maintained commensurate with changing job responsibilities. Utilizes VISTA and other personal computer packages to provide management with clear, concise ad-hoc reports, summaries and presentations in a visually effective manner. Supports all administrative functions of Mental Health Service. As designated by the Supervisory Program Specialist, the selectee will be responsible for other administrative duties in support of Mental Health Service. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: The primary tour of duty will be M-F 8am to 4:30pm. Telework: This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/27/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: serve as front-line point of contact for Service employees; use MS Word, Excel, and Power Point to prepare documents, develop and change spreadsheets; file, type, enter data, maintain records, take shorthand, and use and complete forms; understand, interpret, and implement effective communication strategies work with clients and customers to assess their needs, and provide information or assistance; troubleshoot personal computer software/hardware problems and requires IMS work orders and menu options as needed for Mental Health Service. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position are consistent with specialty administrative tasks. The Program Support Assistant primarily performs sedentary work at a desk with a telephone and a computer. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, files and pushing of carts may be involved.
