PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR – Weekend Shift

Our Brenham Facility was opened in 2015 and in the subsequent years we have more than trebled manufacturing. PPE (Precision Polymer Engineering) produces high performance elastomeric seals that is sold primarily for the Semiconductor industry.

Due to our growth, here at PPE, we are looking for a Production Supervisor that wants to join a growing, empowering company with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. This position supervises our Friday-Sunday 6:30am-7:00pm Shift. When there is a demand for OT, schedule adusments may be needed to meet business needs .The company offers 144 hours of PTO per year, has a comprehensive benefits package, contributes to 401k and retirement benefits, and maintains one of the highest bonus structures in the area.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The goal of the Production Supervisor is to lead and direct the manufacturing team toward Operational Excellence and be a strong contributor in making PPE LLC a world class manufacturer. Through strong leadership and under the direction of the Production Manager, the Supervisor will drive a culture of engagement and accountability within his/her team, ensure order fulfillment to meet customer demand, and maintain quality, cost, and safety standards for the production team. This position has the overall responsibility for coordinating and managing assigned resources and employees to meet company production goals, will lead the department in daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives, which include but are not limited to: safety, OTD, quality improvement, establishing manufacturing priorities, improving flow, coordinating activities with off-shifts, and will develop root cause countermeasures where necessary. The Production Supervisor will oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly expectations, they will own the development and training of Leads and operators which is key to the success of the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONS

  • Assign, direct, and observe the daily work of operators to meet key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with Planning department to develop daily production plan by reviewing production schedules, making job assignments, estimating worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment, and coordinating material flow with other departments.
  • Reinforce adherence to standard work and visual controls to reduce variation.
  • Minimize disruptions to flow within operations; create standard work for what to do when flow is disrupted; resolve or escalate issues/obstacles to get timely resolution as needed.
  • Monitor and report daily performance metrics on cell board, including safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Train, develop, motivate, and lead a team of people to achieve established goals and objectives related to production, utilization, quality, etc.
  • Ensure quality of products meets specifications.
  • Ensure efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

  • Communicate with employees about important issues affecting business and the work environment.
  • Responsible for hiring, interviewing, corrective action, and termination of direct reports in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Ensure that all established policies and procedures are followed as outlined in the company handbook.
  • Encourage employees to participate in the improvement of their jobs by utilizing internal suggestion pipeline and follow-up in a timely manner.
  • Administer and document training for production team members.
  • Assess and address training needs of employees.
  • Evaluate and manage employee performance.
  • Manage employee time keeping and monitor OT.

QUALITY & CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

  • Assist in the analysis of production and related processes and recommend improvements or changes in working conditions and use of equipment to decrease costs and increase efficiency and quality of facilities, equipment, processes, and team member performance using process improvement tools.
  • Develop and/or assist in the development and implementation of process improvement practices.
  • Identify issues and use the cell team or support team (technical roles) to determine root cause and implement corrective or preventive actions (e.g. implement counter measures to disruptions to flow, missed pitch, scrap/ rework / defects, excess inventory, OT).

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing setting, machining, assembly, quality.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 5 years in a supervisory role OR Lower degree/diploma with equivalent experience acceptable (i.e. Associate’s Degree + 7 years’ supervisory experience)

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in Process Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and make decisions using business metrics and data.
  • Must be customer focused and know about internal and external customer relationships.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Self-motivated, with good organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must work well in a team environment, experience working within a union environment a plus.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to collect data on department metrics and create/maintain charts and graphs in Excel and make basic presentations in PowerPoint.
