Products at AES combine engineering and commercial solutions to deliver clean energy efficiently and cost-effectively. The engineering solutions integrate procured hardware and software utilized in energy generation, conversion, and storage applications at renewable energy power plants. AES is seeking a product solutions engineer to support product development for advanced grid applications in the Solutions Engineering team. This will involve designing and prototyping system architectures for new products, conducting electro-magnetic transient (EMT) simulations for microgrids and grid-forming applications, developing operational requirements and system control integration guidance working with our controls SMEs, coordinating project de-risking objectives with AES’ Technology Solutions group, execution of new technology capabilities at pilot projects, and recording fundamental learnings to transfer the product into project engineering. After a pilot plant is developed, de-risked, and executed, this role will coordinate with product engineers to convert the solutions into engineering documentation to support the AES product’s commercialization globally.
The successful candidate will have a background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or renewable energy engineering. Having experience in PSCAD is a plus to simulate new systems and applications in the resilience space. They will be able to distill a pilot project’s contractual technical requirements to develop power plant component and site-level architectures during the development phases of the project. This will involve reviewing and defining technical specifications of sub-system renewable powerplant components (energy storage, power conversion systems, solar arrays, wind generators, plant controllers, and other clean energy technologies) by leveraging information from equipment subject matter experts (SMEs). They will be interested in new technologies and system solutions, while being passionate about clean energy and decarbonization. They will be organized and able to produce effective analysis of on-site test data and report learnings to the broader AES engineering teams.
The position is in Louisville, CO and may include up to 30% travel to project locations and international partner locations. Working remotely is a possibility.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities for this position will be to:
· Identify high-level project objectives and coordinate with equipment SMEs to select equipment that defines a potential solution
· Develop and test Microgrid Control Sequence of Events and coordinate deliverables for successful execution of microgrid capable projects, with project engineers
