Product Owner - Corporate Technology
Workday & Enterprise Systems · Martin Place, Sydney CBD · Hybrid (3 days in-office)
This is a Product and Delivery ownership role that sits at the heart of how Challenger runs. You’ll own the direction and delivery of Workday (Finance and HR) and adjacent platforms like Workiva, Anaplan, Archer, and Lawcadia used daily by Finance, HR, Risk, Legal and Company Secretariat.
The role is about translating business need into the right outcomes: well-shaped backlogs, controlled releases and a platform that stays stable while it evolves.
Critically, you'll be the bridge between senior business stakeholders and a delivery partner model - skilled at drawing out what stakeholders really need, not just what they ask for, and turning that into work a partner-led team can confidently execute.
You'll work alongside internal teams and our delivery partner, guiding configuration approach, shaping platform solution components, holding quality to account and making the trade-offs that keep delivery moving.
What you'll own
The corporate systems roadmap and backlog: from intake and triage through to prioritisation, release and adoption.
Platform health: defect and incident prioritisation, upgrades and a steady cadence of well-managed change.
Vendor partnership: delivery to agreed scope and timelines, SLA oversight, and early escalation when expectations aren't met.
What you'll do day-to-day
Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Finance, HR, Risk, Legal and Company Secretariat - understanding their priorities and constraints deeply enough to represent them in every delivery decision.
Facilitate discovery workshops and translate complex requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria your delivery partners can act on confidently.
Set sprint priorities, run agile cadences and keep a partner-led squad focused and unblocked.
Review configuration outcomes, testing coverage and release readiness and push back when quality isn't there.
Apply practical technical judgement: selecting the best platform components to provide a solution aligned to business needs e.g. knowing when an API integration is a better answer than a reporting workaround and steering away from unnecessary complexity.
Embed controls, compliance and security into every change so releases are auditable and well-governed.
What we're looking for
You're an experienced product owner with a track record in complex enterprise environments - ideally financial services or wealth management.
You have exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build credibility quickly, navigate competing priorities across business areas, and translate ambiguous needs into clear, actionable requirements.
As well as;
Strong finance process knowledge (AP, AR, GL etc) with the ability to spot end-to-end impacts early, including integrations, controls and reporting.
Workday Financials experience (preferred), or equivalent enterprise ERP background in SAP, Oracle Finance or equivalent.
Familiarity with Workday HCM or other HR systems is a plus, though finance is the core focus.
Proven agile delivery experience: planning sprints and releases, managing dependencies and driving outcomes through cross-functional teams.
Experience in a partnered delivery model, including vendor and SLA management.
Confidence running a live platform - triaging incidents, prioritising fixes and coordinating change across integrations and testing.
A track record in complex, enterprise environments - ideally financial services or wealth management.
