Reporting to the Senior Category Manager, you will lead the management of a category of products by conducting business analysis, contributing ideas to the annual business plan, provide recommendations for product listings, in-store promotions and merchandising initiatives, as well as implement creative ideas to improve revenue generation.

About the Role

  • Own the day-to-day purchasing, promotional and merchandising activities for select product categories.
  • Participate in ongoing merchandising financial process for select categories by providing relevant category insights to Category, and Financial Planning teams.
  • Balance assortment by recommending new product listings including general, seasonal, one-time release, gifting and ecommerce programs.
  • Find opportunities to accelerate sales growth, improve overall assortment mix, and drive operational efficiency.
  • Manage the delisting process to ensure removal of non-performing brands, consistent with category strategy and sales targets.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers, agents, trade associations, and retail store managers.
  • Meet with Trade representatives to review product portfolios, identify new product and growth opportunities, and evaluate merchandising initiatives on an ongoing basis.
  • Conduct regular store visits, viewing merchandising initiatives to actively maintain a "leading edge" focus on field level retail/merchandising issues.

About You

  • A deep understanding of marketing techniques, merchandising concepts, business and economic modeling, and business analysis obtained through education in Business Administration and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and/or supervisory experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills are also essential.
  • Demonstrated analytical & decision-making abilities.
  • Established experience using information technology on diverse and dynamic applications.
  • Established retail experience in marketing and merchandising as well as demonstrated project management and decision-making skills.
  • Prior experience in the area of beverage alcohol retailing, related product knowledge, and the ability to use a systematic approach to tasting to evaluate flavour and quality of wines, beers and spirits are assets.
  • Completion of the Advanced Level Wine & Spirit Education Trust certificate is a definite asset.
  • A valid driver’s license, access to a car, and the ability to travel extensively throughout the province, for up to several days at a time, and to work outside regular working hours are mandatory.
