JOB OVERVIEW: 

Provides engineering skills to support product development, quality control and production through design, analysis, and validation of health care products and manufacturing processes. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Uses engineering training in the design/development, testing, documentation and manufacturing of products with adherence to product development process 

  • Creates drawings, documentation, and specification for products as well as maintenance of documentation for existing products. Prepare the production "package" including work instructions, travelers, drawings, labeling, etc. 

  • Provides manufacturing engineering support for production and assembly operations.  

  • Manages design history file including design review meetings, phase sign-offs, and turnover at end of project 

  • Performs final product verification and validation testing

  • Recommends and implements process improvements for manufacturing procedures 

  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate the results 

  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications, reliability, and regulatory requirements 

WORK EXPERIENCE 

  • 2 or more years’ experience working as an engineer in mechanical or chemical manufacturing or physics or equivalent education 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:   

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Physics) 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:   

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical drawings, and procedure manuals  

  • Ability to write routine and technical testing protocols, reports, and correspondence   

  • Detail oriented and ability to organize, document, and communicate across the organization  

  • Strong working knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks preferred) and statistical tools such as Excel and Minitab

  • Medical or dental device manufacturing working experience 

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA and others) 

  • Excellent problem solving skills 

  • Six Sigma or other Lean Manufacturing training or experience a plus 

 

TRAVEL / WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Travel – typically not more than 10% 

  • Position typically works on site where environmental conditions are stable.  May be exposed to higher levels of noise typical in a production environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely may be required to sit for extended periods of time; use hands to finger and operate computers, engineering tools, and product;  ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, stretch, and may be required to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds 

  • Position requires that the employee use eye protection at all times while working in the manufacturing area
