Hitachi Energy is currently looking for an Engineering Team Leader for the Power Transformers Business to join their team in Global Engineering Center in Vadodara, India. This team seeks a skilled and motivated individual.

How you’ll make an impact

  • The successful candidate for Engineering Team Leader for the Power Transformers Engineering will oversee the creation of a team focused on transformer design. This role includes gathering requirements from various departments, translating them into strategy, and delivering manufacturable designs across any PT factories within Hitachi Energy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management, operations, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain) to gather and consolidate design requirements.
  • Translate business and technical needs into a clear design strategy aligned with customer specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with global standards and customer specifications.
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team specializing in transformer design. Define roles, responsibilities, and development plans for team members.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Oversee the creation of detailed transformer designs, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal aspects.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability across all PT factories within Hitachi Energy. Review and approve engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • In depth knowledge of CPLM is preferred. Coordinate with global manufacturing teams to validate design feasibility and readiness.
  • Support PT factories in ramping up and transferring GEC team designs to manufacturing. Resolve design issues during production and work with the factory engineering manager to implement fixes.
  • Develop and manage project timelines for each customer. Identify potential risks in design and manufacturing processes, proactively developing mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing feedback from production, quality audits, and customer input, implementing best practices to optimize processes and enhance product quality.
  • Work closely with procurement, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of new designs, timely sourcing of critical components, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Facilitate regular technical reviews and cross-departmental meetings to align objectives, share updates, and resolve emerging challenges in a timely fashion. Act as the primary point of contact for transformer design initiatives related to Tender & Order engineering.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and HUB Engineering managers.
  • Champion the adoption of advanced technologies and sustainable design practices as per the BU guidelines. Contribute to the evolution of transformer digitalization through platforms like TXpert™ Ecosystem.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Candidate should have a degree in B.E. (Mechanical/Electrical) with >12 years’ experience in Trafo design, mainly on power transformer design.
  • 5 years of team management experience with experience in Project management. Experience in Tender engineering and order engineering.
  • Experience of working for North America, Europe and Asian market IEC standard & IEEE standard. Proven track record of engineering support and standardization across multiple factory locations.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, operations, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Strong background in project engineering management, including requirement gathering, strategy development, and execution.
  • Proficient in design systems, tools, and processes used in power transformer development. Familiarity with digital platforms such as TXpert™ Ecosystem is a plus.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively while working remotely with host factories.
  • Experience managing cross-cultural customer interactions and engineering tasks across geographies. Strong ability to delegate tasks based on team capabilities and monitor progress effectively.
  • Demonstrated skill in setting a strategic vision, driving team performance, and delivering positive results. Adaptable to new systems and processes across various factory environments.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
