Process Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor and adjust oven temperatures, mold temperatures, conveyor speeds, mold conditions, calibrations, pour patterns, cycles, and material formulations to achieve optimal part quality and cost efficiency.

  • Maintain, interpret, and analyze SPC charts, downtime reports, and production data to identify trends and drive process improvements.

  • Establish, update, and enforce standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure process control, quality, and safety.

  • Assist in establishing standard machine operating parameters, including temperatures, pressures, and throughput, across injection molding equipment.

  • Develop and optimize part formulations to maximize First Time Capability (FTC) and minimize scrap.

  • Investigate manufacturing issues related to defects, downtime, or inefficiencies and implement corrective actions promptly.

  • Collaborate with tooling and production teams on new tooling design, ensuring proper parting lines, gate locations, hinge placement, and mounting features.

  • Work with FBU and suppliers to evaluate new materials and processes, testing for quality, cost, and production efficiency.

  • Recommend process improvements, capital expenditures, and assist in Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

  • Participate as an active member of cross-functional teams supporting production, quality, maintenance, and engineering initiatives.

  • Oversee compound operations and demonstrate the ability to run all compounding lines within the assigned area of responsibility.

Leadership & Supervision Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to Line Technicians within the assigned production area.

  • Participate in hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination decisions for Line Technicians.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and support development plans for Line Technicians.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the Process department.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Support environmental protection, pollution prevention, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System.

  • Provide leadership to maintenance and production teams to ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA/TCEQ standards.

  • Continuously monitor the workplace for environmental, health, and safety hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

  • Assess engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE requirements on an ongoing basis.

  • Assist in accident, near-miss, and safety incident investigations.

  • Exercise authority to stop unsafe work practices, equipment usage, or production activities to ensure employee safety.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Process Technician in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Injection molding experience required, including hands-on work with Husky, Toshiba, and Haitian machines, and Sepro robots.

  • Injection Molding Certification required.

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Plastics Technology, or a related field required.

  • Strong knowledge of SPC, process controls, and manufacturing optimization techniques.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with Quality, Operations, Maintenance, Tooling, and Engineering teams.

  • Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift and support frequent overtime as required.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
