Job Description

Our Madoc, ON facility operates a fully integrated mining and manufacturing site where we produce and distribute coloured granules used in shingle production. The operation includes a 400-acre open pit mine, an industrial crushing and colouring plant, distribution services, and ongoing construction projects.

As a mining and rock-crushing environment, this role involves working in an active industrial setting. The plant is not climate controlled, and operations create naturally dusty conditions. Access throughout both five-level plants is via platforms and open-grated stairs.

Located 30 minutes north of Belleville, ON, Madoc is a rural community of approximately 1,000 residents. The plant is situated 5 km west of town in a country setting. Company-owned housing is available free of charge next to the facility. Please note that reliable personal transportation is required, as public transit is not available in the area.

When you join us you will:

  • Work with the Plant Maintenance and Production teams (Supervisors, Millwrights, etc.), to develop Standard Work Plans for all routine tasks within the plant
  • Create, review, and audit SWI’s and SOP’s
  • Assist with the implementation of our (7) Life Critical Programs: Hot Work, Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, Safe Mechanical Lifting, Working at Heights, First Line Break, and Energy Isolation
  • Collect and update data in our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Consolidate data for implementation of e-Permitting System
  • Utilize 5S methodology – Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain, to improve safety and efficiency in manufacturing areas
  • Support project delivery of both capital and non-capital scopes, liaising with clients, contractor representatives and/or project field personnel as necessary
  • Complete project related tasks and deliverables, including but not limited to initial design criteria, basis for design input and project approval requests
  • Support project commissioning and start up activities where applicable
  • Complete task and project reporting, both cost and schedule
  • Work mainly dayshift hours, starting at 6am, with occasional off-shift support on a 24/7 site.

Our ideal candidate would be:

  • Current student enrolled a Occupational Health & Safety Management, Mechanical Engineering or Quality Engineering Management program
  • Proficient in MS software (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
  • Experienced in industrial manufacturing environments
  • Knowledgeable in health, safety and/or environmental legislation
  • Knowledgeable in e-Permitting Systems and Permit-to-Work Management
  • Knowledgeable in Ontario Mining Regulations
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and documents
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) with good communication skills
  • Able to operate autonomously and with groups while prioritizing tasks/workload

Wage:

  • $22/hour - $25/hour

Transportation and Housing:

Transport - Candidates must arrange for their own transportation. This is a very rural setting and no form of public transportation is available, therefore access to your own vehicle is required

Housing - Accommodation local to the plant (2 minute drive) is available as part of the Co-op placement at no extra cost
