The Senior Process Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the processing unit to ensure safe, efficient performance and consistent product quality. This role requires both independent initiative and collaborative teamwork to maintain production, utility operations, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the splitter processing unit via console and automated systems. Adjust process variables (e.g., flows, temperatures, pressures) to control heaters, furnaces, compressors, exchangers, and towers. Identify and resolve abnormal conditions to maintain process integrity and equipment reliability. Assist with truck rack and vessel operations, support drivers, and maintain site appearance. Support technicians and field operators with maintenance tasks as assigned. Perform compliance task and create workorders for any discrepancies found.
  • Apply substantial job knowledge and company policies to perform moderate to complex tasks. Exercise sound judgment to resolve issues with minimal supervision. Receive general guidance on new assignments while performing routine work independently. Support, train, and mentor Intermediate and associate level operators.
  • Ensure accurate completion and maintenance of required documentation and records. Adhere to all applicable regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, PSM) and company safety and operational policies. Support operational goals by completing additional projects and assignments as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety protocols and participate in emergency response activities. Engage in required safety training, meetings, and drills. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of: Process Safety Management (PSM); ONEOK Management System (OMS); Operator Qualification (OQ) requirement; Company policies and procedures. Apply compliance knowledge to daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • Actively participate in plant Turnaround activities, including preparation for unit shutdowns and startups. Collaborate with team members to ensure safe and efficient execution of Turnaround plans.
  • Support operational goals by completing additional projects and assignments as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline. Job duties also require the employee to be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred.

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of industry experience in refinery or processing operations
  • At least 2 years in a process operator role
  • Experience applying advanced process control systems to maintain efficient operations and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to work in teams or alone. Coordinate operational activities, demonstrating strong communication and problem-solving skills to support continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex process systems, including interpreting instrumentation data and resolving abnormal operating conditions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and use proficiency in emergency shutdown procedures and advanced safety systems, ensuring rapid and accurate response during critical incidents.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize process variables to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and maintain product quality.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., EPA, OSHA, PHMSA) and ability to apply them in daily operations communicating in English written and orally.
  • Utilize a personal computer running the Windows operating system to complete timekeeping tasks, communicate via email, and access Company resources through the intranet. Maintain daily logbook and consumables inventory records.
  • Apply basic mathematical skills to monitor and control process variables, perform tank measurements, read gauges, and manage product transfers. This includes the ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions between fractions and decimals.
