About the Role:

You will operate at the intersection of technology, law, compliance and business strategy, translating abstract regulatory requirements into concrete, scalable, and elegant solutions.

We serve as internal advisors. We partner with team members to solve complex and nuanced privacy issues in areas including global expansion, new financial products, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advertising. We do this in a manner that is privacy-forward.

As a Senior Privacy Program Manager - Technical, you will help enhance Remitly's culture of privacy as we build new experiences for our customers and employees. This includes leading privacy and regulatory programs with internal partners. These programs involve privacy impact assessments, assessing and mitigating nuanced privacy risks, and creating compliance strategies for relevant data protection laws together with the DPO. Additionally, they involve promoting a privacy-centric culture across the organisation. This role will report to the Principal Privacy Manager and will be based in our Cork office (hybrid - 3 days a week onsite).

You Will:

  • Stay up to date with global privacy regulations and help create thoughtful privacy strategies that consider risks to customers, the business, and employees.
  • Oversee and independently conduct privacy assessments, including Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA), Transfer Impact Assessments (TIA), and Legitimate Interests Assessments (LIA).
  • Lead efforts to implement and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy-by-design and AI Governance principles.
  • Manage a response plan for privacy incidents and personal data breaches
  • Respond to privacy-related queries from partners, providing clear guidance and recommendations.
  • Manage a comprehensive Record of Processing Activities (ROPA).
  • Support expansion into new regions by providing privacy guidance, regulatory analysis, and compliance readiness support.
  • Evaluate privacy risks associated with third-party vendors.
  • Ensure that vendor contracts include appropriate privacy and data protection clauses.
  • Provide strategic guidance on privacy compliance and best practices to internal partners.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate privacy considerations into business processes.
  • Prepare regular reports to senior leadership on the status of the privacy program.
  • Monitor industry trends and the latest privacy issues to enhance the privacy program.
  • Conduct periodic assessments to measure the effectiveness of the privacy program.
  • Develop and deliver privacy training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote privacy awareness and champion a culture of privacy across the organisation.

You Have:

  • A Bachelor or Masters degree in Law, Information Governance, Data Protection, or a related discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge of global privacy regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other global data protection laws.
  • 5+ years of privacy program management in tech; Experience in FinTech/payments or similarly regulated, global environments preferable.
  • Experience supporting global privacy operations.
  • A recognised privacy certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or an equivalent credential.
  • Experience with AI Governance principles and frameworks.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional work, managed dependencies and risks, and influencing teams you don't manage.
  • Experience operationalising and managing global privacy requirements
  • Data fluency. You define the right metrics, build/read dashboards, and use analysis to guide decisions and improvements.
  • History of delivering complex regulatory-driven process improvement projects with technology processes and major tech companies that shows analytical decision-making
