About the team and the role:
An eBay subsidiary, TCGplayer is on a quest to be the most trusted trading card game (TCG) platform — connecting and empowering the hobby community. Trading card games are a $25B global market that creates community connection through in-person games (Pokemon; Magic: The Gathering; YiGiOh; etc.). Founded by and for TCG enthusiasts, we operate a global marketplace, and create tools, technologies and solutions that help small businesses simply and profitably sell TCGs at scale.
As Principal User Experience Designer, you will use your past experience and success to act as a design leader with a vision for one of TCGplayer’s critical product portfolios: our next-generation products and services for domestic and international fulfillment. In this senior role, you will partner with cross-departmental peers to design and deliver customer-centered solutions serving a broad variety of constituents who benefit from our fulfillment solutions: hobbyists, sellers, and our internal operations teams. You will own the UX Design roadmap for every aspect of TCGplayer’s fulfillment products and services, making final design decisions and holding accountability for UXD output in this critical area. Your actions and guidance will also inform our standards for design excellence, cross-team collaboration, and our vision for evolving TCGplayer and our hobby community as a whole.
Our User Experience Design team prides itself on creating a culture that fosters camaraderie, embraces diversity, and exudes passion. We value curiosity, craft, and a desire to directly interact with the real world. You don’t have to be a hobbyist or gamer to love working in TCGplayer’s UX Design organization, but you should be comfortable with ambiguity and eager to amplify our steadfast commitment to making hobbies and games accessible, fun, and rewarding for everyone. If you’re equal parts “empathy” and “ambition,” this is an opportunity to take risks and stretch yourself, surrounded by teammates who will support you along the way.
What you will accomplish:
Your insight, effort, and experience will contribute across 3 areas of responsibility, within the Fulfillment Solutions portfolio and across the broader organization:
Customer value: Know our customer, deeply. Understand, document, and advocate for customer needs, value propositions, and delightful journeys in the context of top-level portfolios; weigh and prioritize competing customer needs and values; define and advocate for experiential goals and behavioral success requirements; integrate these into a coherent customer-focused design vision and clearly communicate the “why” behind it.
Business impact: Steward our business health. Partner with business leaders to understand your portfolio’s business dynamics and strategy; adjust design proposals based on a nuanced understanding of portfolio performance and business impacts.
Execution and delivery: Foster an environment where cross-team collaboration and proactive communication is second nature, working closely with product, technical, and business teammates to rapidly prototype, deliver, and evaluate designs informed by technical and operational feasibility; solve high stakes and highly visible user experience problems alongside senior leadership and collaborators; provide design strategy and solutions early and often throughout projects. Navigate the art of the possible.
What you will bring:
Your past experience should include individual accountability for program- and portfolio-level design strategy, planning, and successful execution:
8+ years of UX Design experience, including web, mobile, and service design leadership on shipping, logistics, or similar experiences in a marketplace context – this could include buyer- and/or seller-facing fulfillment experiences as well as internal tooling like warehouse and workflow management solutions; a portfolio of shipped work, showcasing a structured practice for implementing designs from strategy and planning through launch and scaling, resulting in measurable customer impact.
Demonstrated success integrating user experiences with internal team systems, policies, and tools – including third-party vendors – in a fast-growing online marketplace or B2B SaaS business.
A steadfast focus on solving customer needs, with experience deriving design solutions from qualitative and quantitative customer insights; strongly motivated to regularly interact directly with customers.
Mastery of user experience design methodologies, including modern customer- and design-centric practices; mastery of standard design tools like Figma, and effective AI integrations into your workflow; self-directed skills development.
The ability to establish standards and conventions for portfolio-level design execution, including planning, dependency management, and delivery in an agile product development process; able to guide results while proactively seeking out diverse perspectives and input; a bias towards operational scalability and documentation.
Demonstrated experience conducting or applying agile user research, with a focus on lean usability testing and building data-driven designs; hands-on experience implementing reviews with software such as: Amplitude, Qualtrics, Google Analytics, Optimizely, or similar.
Expert level knowledge on aligning to business goals while supporting end user needs; past design work demonstrating how a range of lean and polished solutions have met customer needs within business constraints.
Experience collaborating with engineers and operation teammates to communicate a design vision and translate it into code and business solutions, ensuring technical feasibility and business within a great user experience; excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to share complex concepts to a variety of audiences and collaborators, from entry-level team members to executive leaders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a hobby, gaming, and/or collectibles community.
Formal education or certifications in UX Design, HCI, or related fields.
Experience with global expansion in a marketplace or platform business.
Experience and knowledge of shipping, logistics, and fulfillment operations
