Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

Primary Work Location: Remote, USA (Northern, VA preferred)

Position Summary:  Everfox is one of the world’s largest private cybersecurity companies. As a Principal System Engineer at Everfox, you will be joining our product development engineering team focusing on our Cross Domain solutions. You will be our primary interface with critical Government offices that provide regulations, guidance and oversight to our customer community. In this role you are responsible for monitoring and communicating many different activities as well as developing novel solutions to very complex regulatory, procedural and technical problems. You will also interface with a wide variety of organizations within Everfox as well as many of Everfox’s customers to analyze requirements, evaluate Government regulations and provide subject matter expert guidance on all matters related to cross domain solutions. The successful and highly motivated candidate:

  • Serves as a trusted policy and technical authority for stakeholders, customers, and leadership

What you will be doing:

Key Responsibilities

1. Government Relationship Management

  • Maintain continual, clear and constructive communication between Everfox and multiple Government offices

  • Formulate and implement strategies and approaches, ensuring that all activities are conflict-sensitive

  • Build and maintain a network of contacts, including Government officials, employees, contractors, and Defense contractors to facilitate access and collaboration

  • Facilitate open dialog between multiple organizations to resolve complex issues

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of Government regulations, guidance and advisory documentation

2. Technical Expertise

  • Apply deep knowledge of engineering principles, cybersecurity standards, and industry regulations including NIST 800-53, DoDI 8510, DoDI 8540, Raise the Bar, and Common Criteria

  • Provide high-quality, strategic policy and technical guidance to senior and executive leadership to shape Everfox activities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for complex system architectures to guide teams in selecting appropriate tools, frameworks, and technologies

3. Reasoning, Problem Solving & Communication

  • Diagnose complex policy and technical issues in ambiguous, time-sensitive environments

  • Make sound decisions balancing risk, cost, schedule, and mission impact

  • Clearly communicate technical rationale to engineering teams, leadership, and customers

  • Draft executive and technical summaries of complex issues for multiple audiences

  • Draft and deliver training material related to current Government regulations for Everfox employees

  • Incorporate diverse technical perspectives to strengthen outcomes

4. Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan, coordinate, monitor and report complex analysis, documentation and design activities across multiple product development teams

  • Evaluate and report adherence to various policies, procedures and best practices

  • Develop, execute and monitor continuous improvement plans across multiple independent teams

  • Define and enforce engineering standards and best practices

Leadership & Influence

At the Principal level, impact extends beyond individual contributions:

  • Influence technical direction across multiple teams and programs

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to program leadership and stakeholders

  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers

  • Shape engineering culture, standards, and technical excellence

  • Represent Everfox in technical forums, customer engagements, and design reviews

Required Qualifications

  • An active (currently in use) – Secret clearance. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • 12+ years of experience in systems engineering and/or software engineering

  • Deep understanding of Assessment and Authorization processes including NIST 800-37 and DoDI 8540.

  • Proven experience designing complex, secure, and scalable systems

  • Experience in regulated environments (DoD, IC, federal, or defense industry)

  • Strong knowledge of secure system architectures and integration

  • Experience defining software development lifecycles and systems engineering practices

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

  • Note that this position requires in-person meeting attendance in the greater Washington D.C. area, including Annapolis Junction MD and Herndon VA, from one day a month to three days a week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cross-domain solutions or secure information systems

  • Experience creating, editing and maintaining Assessment and Authorization Body of Evidence documents

  • Experience leading R&D or advanced engineering initiatives

  • Prior technical leadership on large, complex programs

  • Deep understanding of the following information technology areas:

    • Routing, switching, TCP/UDP/SSH/FTP/SCP/HTTPS protocols.

    • Linux/Unix deployment, auditing and administration

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:

$196,200.00-239,199.00 USD

The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs. In addition to a base salary and bonus plans, Everfox offers a generous benefits package including flexible PTO, a 401k match, and contribution to healthcare coverages.
