We are seeking a talented and passionate Principal Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team. If you are motivated by building strong supplier relationships and improving quality, this role is an excellent opportunity to make an impact at GE Appliances.
As a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer – Plastics, you will own a portfolio of global suppliers and work to reduce the Cost of Quality (COQ) impact. You will be responsible for both proactive and reactive supplier management, including initial selection and qualification, continuous improvement, and development throughout the product lifecycle. This role requires collaboration across functions to support New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and analyzing root causes to drive permanent solutions.

How You'll Create Possibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own all aspects of supplier relationships that affect COQ for plastic value-add suppliers, including quality engineering, continuous improvement, and issue resolution.
  • Champion the use of quality tools and Supplier Composite Scorecard to resolve supplier performance issues, develop robust quality control plans, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop expertise in plastic injection molding and secondary operations such as pad printing, hot stamping, welding, and testing of plastic parts.
  • Lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, collaborate with Technology teams to address NPI issues, and manage Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements.
  • Conduct business and technical surveys to assess supplier capabilities and provide recommendations for strategic or tactical supplier development.
  • Work cross-functionally with technology, manufacturing, and sourcing to lead projects involving process changes, supplier moves, and material changes, identifying areas for cost reduction.
  • Mentor junior team members, provide guidance for project execution, and manage third-party resources to coordinate project priorities.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A BS in Engineering or a technical discipline such as Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics, or equivalent technical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Quality, or Engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of plastic injection molding and value-add processes to plastic components.
  • Strong background in applying statistical tools for product and process development and control, including Gage R&R, Process Capability, Control Plans, SPC, PFMEA, and DOE.
  • Advanced skills in reading engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances with an understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience with problem-solving tools such as 8-D, 5 Whys, 7 Ways, SCAR, Fishbone, and Pareto.
  • Supervisory and mentoring experience with a proven track record of promoting professional and employee growth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to influence and drive changes in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to simplify complex information and prepare concise executive summaries.
  • Working knowledge of Supplier Quality systems such as Oracle ERP (AGILE, EBS) and processes.
  • Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt).
  • RJG Certification (Master Molder I).
