About the Job:
The Red Hat OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in Bangalore, India. In this role, you will lead the intersection of Cloud-Native Platforms and Agentic AI. You will work in an agile team and contribute to the engineering of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and its supporting components in the core of Kubernetes. Your mission is to bridge the gap between high-level AI orchestration and low-level Kubernetes primitives to ensure that AI workloads have the same multi-tenancy, security, and performance guarantees that Red Hat customers expect from the enterprise-grade Kubernetes.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor in implementing customer requirements and ensuring the evolving needs of Red Hat OpenShift’s rapidly growing customer base are met. You’ll need to work with various engineering teams as well as product management and other key stakeholders across the product to identify and prioritize features to existing and upcoming releases. You will work proactively with the open source Kubernetes community and lead the implementation of important improvements from the project in our software product.
What will you do
Architectural Leadership: Define and oversee the high-level structure of software systems, managing functionality, resilience, security, and technology tradeoffs.
Agentic Strategy: Lead the transition toward an Agentic SDLC, moving beyond traditional automation to implement AI-augmented testing and development workflows.
Core Engineering: Develop features in Kubernetes and OpenShift within an agile team, contributing to the core of Kubernetes.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Support to identify and prioritize features for upcoming releases.
Innovation & Research: Lead the research and integration of AI/ML technologies to innovate processes, including automated test generation and intelligent system diagnostics.
Technical Mentorship: Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior team members, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
Community Engagement: Proactively lead the implementation of important improvements from the open-source Kubernetes community into the Red Hat product stack.
Architectural Expertise: Proven experience in architecting and designing complex, large-scale distributed systems.
AI/ML Orchestration: Hands-on experience with LLM Orchestration (e.g., LangChain, AutoGPT) and AI-augmented development.
Programming Proficiency: 8+ years of experience writing code in Go, Java, or Python, with expert-level skills in building large-scale frameworks.
Kubernetes Internals: Deep understanding of containers and Kubernetes internals, including multi-tenancy and security primitives.
Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience in complex environments.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
AIOps & Observability: Expertise in turning telemetry data into actionable prompts for AI agents.
AI Tooling: Familiarity with specialized tools such as GitHub Spec-Kit, Kiro, and Tessl.
Open Source Leadership: Prior participation or leadership in open-source community software development.
Cloud Platforms: Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCE, or Azure).
