We are currently recruiting an Analytical, Science & Technology Lead for our site in Cork.
This is a technical position in AS&T in the Laboratory. It is responsible for both Chemistry and Microbiology Lab Assets, ensuring that the Lab is advanced in its technologies while ensuring compliance and best practices are adhered to. The role ensures efficient and innovative technologies and ideas are being implemented while providing guidance and training to AS&T scientists. You will provide overall facility guidance on developments, trends and observed issues related to Microbiology/Chemistry Analysis. You will develop the Microbiological/Analytical direction for the facility and implement current Microbiology/Chemistry Lab test methodologies and practices to support product, environment and utility testing. A typical day to day would be to:
- Coordinate lifecycle of Laboratory Assets, including projects & procurement to introduce new technologies, change controls, calibration/qualification, maintenance, and asset retirement.
- Ownership of analytical Test Methods lifecycle: development, validation, transfer, use & monitoring; including periodic performance reviews, test results track & trend, continuous improvement, change controls, and retirement.
- Provide operational guidance and training to Laboratory associates performing routine laboratory testing.
- Perform routine Laboratory analysis to support product release.
- Develop and implement best practice Micro/Chemistry test methodologies for the facility to support product, environment, and utility testing.
- Design and manage laboratory process improvement projects and validations.
- Drive out-of-spec investigations to successful and timely conclusion; provide training and guidance to Laboratory associates in completing OOS/DCT/QN & CAPAs.
- Ownership of CAPAs & Audit actions.
- Interpret analytical results and resolve technical and/or operational problems; provide technical advice and support to other departments within the facility.
- Support Lab Inventory Management, including standards.
- Technically comprehend test processes and perform troubleshooting studies/investigations to resolve technical and/or operational issues for process improvements and validations.
- Stay up to date on current and future Chemistry & Microbiology technical and regulatory trends; ensure Lab operations reflect these and remain in validated state.
- Engage in training and mentoring of AS\&T Scientists to develop expertise within the group.
- Lead/Participate in internal and external audits.
- Support Lab Manager with product release and paperwork review as required.
- Comply and adhere to all relevant company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to laboratory dress code and facility safety procedures.
- Ensure continual Quality System compliance by adherence to established and evolving Alcon QS requirements.
What You’ll Bring to Alcon
- Education:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry/Microbiology or technically related discipline
- Preferred: Bachelor (Hons) Degree or Master’s in Chemistry/Microbiology or technically related discipline
- Experience:
- Minimum: 5 years’ experience in a Medical Device/Pharmaceutical Laboratory position with proven troubleshooting experience
- Preferred: 10 years’ experience in a highly regulated Medical Device Laboratory environment with strong troubleshooting, technical, and validation knowledge/experience
- Strong chemical/microbiology technical knowledge, with system troubleshooting and validation experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Technical understanding of chemical/microbiology processes
