Job Description:

What will you work on?

This senior level engineering position is 75% execution of assigned projects and 25% blue sky product concept ideation.  A Principal Prototype Engineer is a hands-on position tasked with development of high complexity toys. The ideal candidate can develop creative methods of achieving the desired goal within the cost requirements of the specified toy.  When a project is approved and assigned the candidate would create through individual effort and collaborate with the staff to achieve fully functional models of the concept.  This person works closely with management on new product initiatives and collaborates with other BAIC team members for electrical, soft goods and design on creative solutions.

  • Work independently, requiring little or no supervision.

  • Clearly demonstrate a solid understanding of toy development within the competitive toy environment.

  • Consistently maintain a positive attitude and be a good role model.

  • Partner with Innovation Management to set direction for new product concepts.

  • Deliver innovative results that support product expansion strategy.

  • Work with production team to ensure integrity of design in final deliverables.

  • Manage the timelines of the projects assigned.

  • Maintain a consistently high level of quality, thoroughness, and attention to detail.

  • Effectively communicate all project related progress/issues or concerns to Management in a timely and professional manner.

  • Solicit creative direction from the Management and other staff members in a timely manner.

  • Assist Design Managers and Brand Management teams when required to develop concept breadboards.

  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Marketing, Quality Control and Product Development teams as well as overseas offices in the product development and approval process.

  • Maintain knowledge of new technologies within your area of expertise.


What are your skills and experience?

  • Consumer products industry experience ; toy design preferred.

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; or 5 or more years related experience and / or training.

  • Animatronics mechanism design using motors, gear boxes and housings commonly used in the toy industry.

  • Heightened creative and technical mechanical abilities including ideation, concept drawings using CAD tools or manual illustration.

  • Model making using 3D modeling tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, SLA and CNC.

  • Advanced knowledge of, and skill in operating, Solidworks or Onshape.

  • A strong sense of design and invention for new products.

                                                                                                                                            
The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $150,000 to $175,000 Per Annum. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc. Spin Master Inc. is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
