The Experience Design Center (XDC) is seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Product Design Engineering professional. This role will develop and drive next-generation electromechanical architectures for new product experiences and exploratory initiatives. The focus is on feasibility, functionality, and manufacturability. This position requires collaboration with internal teams and various product groups, OEMs, and suppliers.

Location: On-site in Tewksbury, MA. Relocation assistance is NOT provided.

Key Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Serve as the Principal Product Build Engineer on multi-functional product teams. You will have the creativity and judgment to translate and conceptualize concepts. You will enable concepts throughout the product development cycle.
  • Lead meaningful priorities and project timelines to deliver on time and to specification.
  • Follow industry standards and guidelines of product development and mechanical engineering while satisfying applicable regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Incorporate principles of Build for Manufacturability (DFM), Build for Assembly (DFA), Lean Manufacturing, and whole product, cradle-to-grave thinking. Deliver feasible and readily manufacturable solutions that consider users’ experience.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to challenges—participating in constructive analysis, conceptualization, and prototyping of outstanding solutions.
  • Effective communicator, demonstrating a concise and logical organization of thoughts, including skill in relaying technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Prepare, present, and participate in build reviews with colleagues and leadership, demonstrating clear and comprehensive representation of XDC to external partners.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, both domestically and internationally.


Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Build or related field with 10+ years’ experience OR A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in stated fields with 7+ years’ experience
  • Preferred product experience in consumer tech, medical, bio-technology, and/or life sciences


Proficiencies and Knowledge:

  • Understanding and knowledge of user experience requirements that impact the development and building of electromechanical elements of consumer electronic and/or scientific products.
  • Clear knowledge of materials, processes, and tooling associated with the development, manufacture, and assembly of plastic and metal parts, including: injection molding (traditional and RIM), thermoforming, extrusion, sheet metal forming, machining, and casting.
  • Experience with high-mix low volume manufacturing. Experience collaborating with sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Lead complicated product priorities emphasizing the integration of customer needs and user experience into the final engineering build.
  • Proven involvement alongside both internal and external manufacturing partners (CM, OEM, and JDM).
  • Experience working with multi-functional product development teams.
  • Project and program leadership experience.
  • Proven experience working within each stage of NPI product development: from ideation, concepting, prototyping, and production.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks and CREO preferred) and 2D drawings, including implementation of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018) and CTQ control.
  • Provide engineering mentorship to research, user experience, and industrial design.
  • Working knowledge of structural, thermal, and fluids principles.
  • BOM management and optimization.
  • Good oral, written, and visual communication and presentation skills of both technical and non-technical information.
  • Demonstratable business insight includes advocating for XDC professionally and thoughtfully, both inside and outside the company. It requires knowledge of the field and clear communication.
  • Working proficiency of Microsoft Suite software including, but not limited to MS Word, Excel, and presentation tools.


Preferred Skills and Capabilities:

  • Familiarity with root cause analysis, DOE, CpK, and other quality and process measurement and analysis techniques.
  • Demonstratable understanding of thermal, structural, and electrical product-related standards and regulations, including EMC/EMI and Environmental Test requirements.
  • Understanding of variable plastic consumables using EBM, IBM and injection molding process.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment specifically an understanding of manufacturing safety, quality concepts, and how to build with consideration for workflow, assembly, and process.
  • Experience in FDA-regulated industries, including familiarity with cGMPs.
  • Comprehension of business financials, particularly budgets, value principles and calculations related to value.
  • Knowledge of FEA, thermal, and CFD simulation. FloTHERM, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation experience a plus. Understanding of operating principles of simulated analyses.
  • Interest in career growth and motivated by success and performance.
  • Knowledge and experience crafting custom PCBs and PCBAs.
  • Experience with Keyshot and Adobe suite is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $160,000.00–$195,000.00.
