Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an ALPS Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3 for our Affordable Long term Production and Scaling team focused on Affordability improvement and Production Scaling projects at our Clearfield-Layton, UT site.  Shift: A-Shift (Monday-Thursday Days, 4-10 schedule)

The ALPS Engineer is responsible for the creation and execution of Affordability and Scaling projects. The classified program that this position supports requires both improvements to production execution cost as well as an increase in rate that requires significant growth and expansion. The ideal candidate for this position will have familiarity and confidence in creating, proposing, and executing specialty projects. This involves but is not limited to package creation, cost estimating, board presentations, and cross-functional project management.  The ideal candidate will have exposure and experience with facility expansion and new facility creation in areas such as Rate Tool Analysis, facility layouts, facility requirements, tool orders, and CAPEX requests. Knowledge and proficiency in other ME business systems (MES, SAP, NX, etc) will be a benefit to executing this job.   

  • Responsible for continuous improvement of the manufacturing process.

  • Accountable for process control, quality, safety, delivery, and rework metrics  

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives. 

  • Strong verbal communicator with experience presenting at technical and financial boards.  

  • Familiarity with project cost forecasting and execution  

  • Support manufacturing proposals & basis-of-estimates (BOE’s) for potential contracts. 

  • Understanding of creation and maintenance of Manufacturing Bill of Materials, Work Instructions, manufacturing standard work documentation.

  • Supports root cause analysis of failures and manages the implementation of corrective actions. 

  • Manage project deliverables to ensure on-time compliance 

  • Support the Program Managers in managing risks and opportunities through allocation of resources, modification of schedule, or revision to contractual terms which working with The Functions, Program Office, and Customer on resolution 

  • Adherence to all internal processes, policies, and applicable industry standards 

  • Plan, define, establish, communicate, monitor, and control scope to ensure that required work is performed

Basic Qualifications

Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 4 year or experience in the following engineering fields; Manufacturing, Tooling, Quality, Production, Industrial, Process, Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautics OR Masters in STEM with 3 of experience in motioned fields; OR PhD in STEM with 0 years of experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Clearance within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain special access program (SAP) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business 

  • Experience with assembly and composite manufacturing processes 

  • Experience working on the manufacturing floor 

  • Experience with organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills to communicate effectively at all levels of management and to individual contributors 

Preferred Qualification:​

  • Active U.S. Government Clearance

  • Active special access program (SAP) 

  • EVM certification and/or exposure 

  • BOE experience for proposals and/or initiative projects 

  • Board experience: TCCB, TRB, CB, CRI, AIR, FAST 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint 

  • Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of increasing production schedules and high delivery rates 

  • Siemens NX, CPLM, SAP, and MES experience 

  • Lean Manufacturing experience 

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
