Chief Engineer

Shanghai - China Full time
Lead the eHW China engineering team in the design, development, proto sample build and validation of the eHW (electrical and mechanical) components and products of High-Voltage Power Electronics including X-in-1 and Electronics for BorgWarner’s PowerDrive Systems product line. Ensure technical excellence, innovation, and compliance with BorgWarner and automotive industry standards while driving cost optimization and agile project execution.

Technical Leadership & Engineering Management:​​

-          Lead a team of electrical and mechanical engineers in the development of Power Electronics and Electronics components and products.

-          Understand and represent PowerDrive Systems’ technologies to customers as required.

-          Lead/manage development of key supporting technology solutions.

-          Develop/maintain eHW product development engineering team with the proper level of capability and critical skills and ensure that quantified engineering budget and headcount needs for project execution and pursuit support are accurate and optimized.

-          Execute hiring as required to meet commitments.

-          Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation.

-          Conduct performance reviews and workforce planning.

Project Execution & New Pursuit:​​

-          Execute awarded projects to meet development timing, drive engineering deliverables including drawings, design documentations, proto sample delivery and validation reports etc to achieve project commitments, and ensure successful launch of products

-          Manage project resource, budgets, and risk assessments for products.

-          ​​Support the development of engineering proposals to win targeted business opportunities

 

Strategy & Process Improvement:​​

-          Support global product line to define roadmaps for next-gen Power Electronics and Electronics technologies including but not limited to China region to meet customer and market demands.

-          Collaborate with global platform team to consolidate China developed building blocks into global building block libraries and ensure implementation and/or accommodations are made for specific customer requirements.

-          Ensure compliance with BorgWarner EDF process and ​​ASPICE, ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) etc automotive standards​​. Implement ​​DFMEA, DVP&R, and Agile/SCRUM methodologies​​ for engineering processes.

-          Optimize design-to-cost (DTC) and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) strategies.

-          ​​Drive engineering excellence by identifying engineering quality/efficiency improvement opportunities and drive improvements.

Cross - Functional Collaboration​

-          Collaborate with cross engineering competence teams (SYPL, System and Software etc) to deliver integrated products and solutions.

-          Work with product line, project management, sales, and plant to understand customer needs and market trends, and translate them into technical requirements and product features.​

-          Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and industry partners.​

-          Collaborate with customers to understand their project requirements, expectations, and constraints, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.​

-          Manage supplier relationships, including supplier selection, negotiation, and performance evaluation, to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality components and services.​

 

Education:

-          Master’s degree in automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is a plus.

 

Experience:

-          15 years & above of automotive engineering experience, power electronics experiences are preferred.

-          Experience of leading fast-cycle production program with China local OEMs.

-          Experience of collaborating with global teams for global OEMs program execution.

-          Fluent in Chinese and English
