What IT Transportation Management contributes to Cardinal Health
This function anticipates, plans, and delivers Information Technology solutions and strategies that enable operations and drive business value. The Principal, IT Transportation Management will serve as the primary technology owner and strategic partner for the organization’s Transportation Management platform (ELM). This role as a Transportation Management Systems (TMS) Lead combines strong functional expertise, technical fluency, and business engagement. 

The ideal candidate will act as a trusted advisor to transportation, logistics, and supply chain leaders—ensuring system stability, high-quality enhancements, and continuous improvement that drives operational excellence. This leader will oversee solution design, development quality, roadmap alignment, and cross-functional integration—championing best practices, driving user adoption, and ensuring the TMS remains a reliable, scalable asset for the enterprise.

Location - Targeting individuals based local to Central Ohio or willing to relocate, able to work in a hybrid structure of 3 days in-office at our HQ (in Dublin, Ohio) with 2 days work from home (remote)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the architecture of ELM platform including: technical integrations between ELM products, technical integrations between the ELM platform and other IT platforms, partnering with ELM solution owners and tech leads to ensure architecture standards are being met within ELM products
  • Responsible for the ELM DevSecOps operations including: partnering with Cardinal IT teams to ensure the ELM platform has best-in-class DevSecOps processes, partnering with ELM solution owners and tech leads to make sure the Cardinal DevSecOps processes are being followed in ELM products
  • Responsible of the ELM development stack including: defining what technologies are in the ELM development stack, partnering with ELM tech leads to make sure the ELM development stack is being followed
  • Responsible of the ELM IT security including: partnering with IT security to identify any security issues in the ELM platform, partnering with ELM solution owners and tech leading to remediate any security issues
  • Responsible for the ELM DR strategy including: creation of the ELM DR strategy, partnering with ELM solution owners to make sure the ELM DR strategy is adhered to in ELM products, partnering with ELM Solution Owners to hire, coach and mentor resources in ELM
  • Partnering with ELM Solution Owners to coach and mentor resources in ELM


Qualifications

  • Ideally targeting individuals who bring 10+ years experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) , such as Oracle Transportation Management (OTM), SAP TM, Blue Yonder, Manhattan, MercuryGate, or similar platforms (highly preferred)
  • Background in Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or similar highly preferred
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CTL, CSCP, PMP, Lean Six Sigma) are a plus.
  • Experience leading integrations between TMS with ERP, WMS, and external carriers via API, EDI, and other middleware tools, preferred
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, preferred
  • Strong experience in SAP ECC/S4 logistics and MM, preferred
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose root causes and optimize transportation processes.
  • Ability to interpret transportation and trade‑related data to recommend improvements.
  • Deep knowledge of national and international transportation management best practices, including carrier management, freight audit and payment, routing optimization, mode selection, and logistics performance KPIs.
  • Proven experience leading projects or workstreams, including planning, requirements gathering, stakeholder coordination, execution oversight, and post‑implementation support.
  • Strong project leadership capabilities, including managing timelines, risks, and deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage cross‑functional teams and external partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset and customer service orientation.

Anticipated Salary Range $135,400 - $228,910 USD
