Principal I, Software Engineering - Digital Health

Bangalore, India Full time

Position Summary:

As a Principal I Software Engineering, you will be part of the Digital Health Surgical Engineering team, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering software for Digital Health products. We are seeking an experienced engineer with a strong background in front-end development, complemented by working knowledge of back-end technologies and DevOps practices, and hands-on experience with AWS cloud services. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in modern front-end technologies outlined below and experience building scalable, secure healthcare applications. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement robust digital solutions that comply with healthcare industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Development: Design, implement, and deploy modern, front-end–driven web applications with a strong focus on UI architecture, performance, scalability, and maintainability, while ensuring secure and seamless integration with back-end services and cloud infrastructure.

  • Front-End Development: Own and drive front-end development using React as the primary framework and LIT  for building lightweight, standards-based Web Components. Architect and develop reusable UI components, design systems, and shared component libraries that can be consumed across multiple applications. Implement advanced state management patterns, optimize rendering performance, and ensure consistent behavior across browsers and devices. Apply best practices for responsive design, accessibility (WCAG), micro‑frontend readiness, and front-end performance optimization. Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers to translate complex design systems into high-quality, production-ready user experiences.

  • Back-End Development: Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and server-side logic using Java (Spring Boot 3.5.x), and/or Python, supporting front-end requirements and ensuring reliable data flow and application stability.

  • AWS Cloud Integration: Leverage AWS services such as EC2, EKS, S3, RDS, Lambda, and DynamoDB to support application hosting, API integration, and scalability. Collaborate on cloud design decisions to ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective front-end deployments.

  • DevOps Practices: Apply practical DevOps fundamentals to support front-end and application deployments, including CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and monitoring using AWS and/or Azure DevOps tools. Contribute to containerized and microservices-based deployments, API gateway integrations, and authentication/authorization mechanisms as needed.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to define front-end technical requirements, align on architecture, and deliver high-quality digital experiences.

  • Testing and Debugging: Implement robust front-end–focused testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, to ensure UI reliability, performance, and regression prevention. Diagnose and resolve UI defects, performance issues, and cross-browser inconsistencies efficiently.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with evolving React, Lit, Web Components, and front-end ecosystem trends, and proactively recommend improvements to UI architecture, tooling, developer experience, and front-end standards.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain clear and detailed front-end–centric technical documentation, including component APIs, design system usage, architectural decisions, and integration guidelines.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in FE development with working knowledge of full-stack software development (focus on healthcare-related Digital applications preferred).

  • Technical Skills:

  • Deep expertise in React, including hooks, modern patterns, component composition, and performance optimization.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Lit (LitElement) and Web Components, including building reusable, framework-agnostic UI components.

  • Proficiency in TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3, including responsive and accessible UI development.

  • Experience integrating front-end applications with back-end APIs built using Java-Spring Boot, or Python.

  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and DynamoDB.

  • Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and microservices-based architectures.

  • Familiarity with healthcare standards and regulations such as HL7, FHIR, and HIPAA is a plus.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills are important.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment.

  • Leadership experience with mentoring and guiding junior engineers is a plus.
