About the role
The Principal Exam Invigilator is responsible for overseeing the administration of exams within the exam centre, ensuring that procedures are followed, and that the testing environment remains organized and secure. This role acts as the on-site lead for invigilators during each exam session, providing direction, handling issues as they arise, and supporting students and staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Open and close the exam site, ensuring security protocols are followed and materials are handled appropriately.
  • Prepare exam rooms and seating before each session, including materials setup and ensuring all accommodation requirements are met.
  • Check in students, creating a calm, welcoming, and organized start to each exam session.
  • Lead and support a team of invigilators to ensure all exam procedures are followed consistently.
  • Liaise with instructors who have questions about their exams and connect students to their instructors when clarification or communication is needed.
  • Monitor exams to maintain academic integrity and a distraction-free environment.
  • Provide guidance and support to students with accommodations.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to students experiencing medical or wellness incidents, following established procedures and maintaining professionalism.
  • Address and document incidents or irregularities calmly and accurately, escalating complex issues to the site lead or supervisor when necessary.
  • Check out students at the end of their exam, ensuring all instructions have been followed correctly and noting any concerns.
  • Collect, organize, and securely package all exam materials following protocol, preparing them for delivery or pickup.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Dependable and punctual, with the ability to remain focused and attentive for extended periods.
  • Skilled in de-escalation and conflict resolution, maintaining professionalism and composure under pressure.
  • Trained in first aid and able to respond appropriately to emergency or wellness situations.
  • Comfortable handling confidential materials and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficient with computers and able to learn and use new software systems effectively.
  • Previous experience as an exam invigilator or in a similar testing or academic support role.
  • All other related duties as required and/or assigned by the Operations Supervisor, Student Accessibility Services, or a designate.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in educational or testing environments, including supervising or coordinating exam sessions or large groups of students.
  • Previous experience handling confidential student records or sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and accommodation processes to support students with diverse needs.
  • Familiarity with exam security protocols and academic integrity standards.
  • Training or experience in conflict management, mental health first aid, or student support services.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience using scheduling, tracking, or learning management systems in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of inclusive and equitable practices in academic environments.

Hourly rate:

$19.05 per hour
