The Global Engineering & Technology Center in Puerto Rico is looking for a Principal Engineer, Safety Risk Analyst to join our team. We are looking for a strong, passionate problem-solver with an action-oriented, collaborative mindset who strives to exceed expectations. 

The Safety Risk Analyst will work within a centralized discipline team executing on the following:

a) Utilize specialized knowledge in statistics, reliability, safety, and risk forecasting to provide safety risk analyses for a breadth of products across all Collins Aerospace SBUs;

b) Create safety risk analyses using appropriate rate-based analysis or Weibull analysis and combine with Monte Carlo simulation where applicable;

c) Apply appropriate hazards to generate forecasts relative to established military and commercial safety risk thresholds;

d) Document methodology and risk results according to regulatory requirements

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.  This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

  • Take full technical responsibility for communicating with internal customer to achieve the best possible safety risk analysis (SRA) with the data available.
  • Provide input to optimize product safety mitigation implementation, including specialized burndown plans to account for nonstandard scenarios.
  • Participate at Collins Risk Analysis and Statistical Methods community of practice (CoP).
  • Support the Product Safety Managers (PSM) as needed with participation and support at the Product Safety Integrity Team (PSIT) and Product Safety Board (PSB).
  • Support development of strategic roadmap for SMS safety risk management pillar.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Work, lessons learned, processes, and best practices for safety risk analysis.
  • Coordinate with Reliability and System Safety Analysis to assure product safety imperfections and improvements are properly recorded and accounted for in read-across,
  • Support risk management activities, including safety policy, risk management, assurance, and promotion.
  • Continue to develop and participate in efficient process improvements using CORE Principles 

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Communication and presentation skills in English (verbal and written).

Qualifications We Prefer::

  • Weibull analysis, reliability tools, and exceptional Excel skill or ability to code in a programming language (R, Python, etc.).
  • Experiencing extract appropriate information to deliver an accurate analysis to be used by executives for decisions on product safety.
  • Statistics/coding/engineering/mathematics background with expertise in statistics, reliability and safety (R&S) engineering, preferably with aerospace application.
  • Experience in probability theory, Weibull analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and coding in a structured programming language.
  • Skilled in the mathematics and methodologies of safety and reliability engineering, including a general understanding of fault tree analysis, reliability block diagrams and FMEA.
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering experience, including inspection methods and manufacturing techniques.
  • MS or PhD in statistics with exceptional skill level programming in R.
  • 3+ years experience performing complex statistical analyses.
