We are seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at the Windsor Locks, CT facility, leading the design and development of advanced electronic control systems for aerospace applications. This role focuses on solving complex electrical challenges, advancing best practices, and providing technical leadership across varied electrical architectures, components, and development processes.

The engineer will lead the design, integration, and support of electronic control systems for critical functions such as engine control, flight control, air management, APU control, stores management systems, and anti-ice systems. In addition, this individual will mentor and develop engineers, guide technical decision-making, and actively shape innovative solutions across programs, influencing the direction of next-generation aerospace electronics.

What You Will Do 

  • Design and develop complex digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits and system architectures for aerospace applications, including engine and flight controls, air management systems, APU controls, De-Ice (anti-ice), and other advanced digital control modules, ensuring safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Drive system-level design decisions and trade studies, optimizing electrical architectures, component selection, and signal integrity for performance, reliability, and compliance with aerospace standards. 

  • Oversee integration, verification, and validation, including qualification testing and regulatory certification for high-reliability aerospace systems. 

  • Conduct design and peer reviews, identify technical risks, and implement mitigation strategies for complex electrical and system-level challenges. 

  • Investigate field and production issues, perform root cause analysis, and define corrective and preventive actions with program-wide impact. 

  • Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and promoting adoption of best practices across the electrical design discipline. 

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers, ensuring cohesive, system-level solutions and alignment with program and regulatory requirements. 

  • Lead initiatives to improve design reliability, manufacturability, safety, and overall system performance, influencing organizational standards and best practices. 

  • Manage documentation and technical reporting, including requirements, interface control documents, and test plans, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards. 

  • Willing to travel approximately 10% to support projects, supplier interactions, and testing activities. 

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience 

  • Prior experience as an Electrical Engineer working on complex or high-reliability electronic systems.  

Qualifications We Prefer  

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering and experience in aerospace or other safety-critical systems. 

  • Proficient in analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design. 

  • Extensive experience in creating electronic circuit schematics and implementing design concepts. 

  • Experience in system integration, validation testing, and performing root cause analysis for complex electrical issues. 

  • Demonstrated strength in technical documentation, supplier engagement, and effective cross-functional communication and collaboration. 

  • Proficient in performing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to evaluate how hardware failures may affect system performance and safety. 

  • Experience with design tools including Cadence and Mentor Graphics.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
