This role is that of an individual contributor role based in Malaysia Penang, reporting to the Director Tax & Subsidies in Singapore. The individual is provided with exposure to global tax data preparation and global projects, with opportunity to manage local tax and grant audits to widen exposure.

Introduction:

This is an individual contributor role based in Penang, Malaysia, reporting to the Director of Tax & Subsidies in Singapore. The role offers exposure to global tax data preparation and global projects, with opportunities to manage local tax and grant audits to broaden professional experience.

Your Job: (Please list 5-10 essential responsibilities of this role)

  • Manage and/or execute tax and subsidy strategy. Perform the following in the capacity of an individual contributor:
    -    Involve in company-wide or finance team projects
    -    Use tools (e.g. Alteryx) to prepare/reconcile data, delivering audit-ready datasets.
  • Support Malaysia tax compliance.
  • Recommend solutions to alleviate or reduce tax burden
  • Prepare Malaysia grant submission.
  • Manage government and auditors with respect to Malaysia grants.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs 
  • Work and collaborate on other projects and/or assignments as needed
  • Experience in tax submission for Malaysia

Required Qualifications:

  • Education – Degree in accountancy or taxation or professional qualification recognized locally
  • Years of Experience – At least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Solid background in direct and indirect tax compliance, with experience in handling tax incentives and tax/grant audit.
  • Prior experience with SAP, Oracle, Vertex and Alteryx is an added advantage
  • Tax experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm is an added advantage.
  • Please indicate % of travel – Adhoc basis
  • Fluency in English Language – Written & verbal
  • Other attributes – team player, hands-on with systems and new technology, strong business/commercial sense, analytical, effective workload prioritization, result-oriented with high levels of drive and initiative, good communication and interpersonal skills
