Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for continuous improvement and system design? NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is seeking a Principal Analyst – System Design and Development to lead the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies, frameworks, and tools that enhance regulatory effectiveness and service delivery. In this pivotal role, you’ll drive performance across Te Rōpū Waeture, our Regulatory Group, collaborating with internal and external partners to shape the future of New Zealand’s land transport regulatory system.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Lead data engagement and analysis across Te Rōpū Waeture, NZTA Waka Kotahi, and government agencies.
  • Develop innovative strategies and solutions through complex analysis and performance insights.
  • Drive improvements in data quality and information systems.
  • Produce strategic advice and recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Build and implement frameworks, tools, and guidance to promote best practice and efficiency.
  • Mentor and coach team members, fostering growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Represent Design & Enablement in working and advisory groups, contributing to organisational initiatives.

Ō Pūmanawa | What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven experience in complex data analysis, service and system design, and business intelligence.
  • Expert understanding of common data analytics programmes such as Power BI.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others, and leading communities of practice.
  • Relationship management and influencing skills, with experience across government and regulatory environments.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification or equivalent experience.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $132,000 - $155,000 commensurate to skills and experience.
