Recovery 1, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a skilled and dependable Preventative Maintenance Technician to support our tractor and trailer fleet in Fife, Washington.
This role is ideal for experienced PM techs who take pride in quality workmanship, safety, and maintaining a clean, professional shop environment. Technicians in this position play a critical role in keeping our equipment safe, compliant, and ready to run.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday | 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM
- Overtime: 3–10 hours/week on average
Pay
- Hourly Pay: $29.00 - $30.25/hr.
- Shift Differential: +$1.50/hour
- CDL Premium: +$1.00/hour for CDL holders
- Tool Allowance: $125/month
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance services on tractors, trailers, and heavy-duty refuse equipment
- Conduct thorough inspections and identify maintenance issues before they become major repairs
- Complete services and DVIR-related tasks accurately and within set timelines
- Assist mechanics with basic repairs and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues
- Ensure equipment meets all DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer standards
- Use fleet maintenance software to complete and document work orders
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
- Communicate clearly with drivers, supervisors, and the maintenance team to resolve issues
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed around large refuse trucks, tractor-trailers, and heavy-duty equipment
- The shop is organized, well-maintained, well-lit, and safety-driven, though the equipment may have dirt or debris from the waste-handling process
- Waste Connections provides company-issued coveralls (fully laundered for you) or company-provided work shirts and pants, along with an annual voucher for steel-toe boots.
- Exposure to standard shop conditions such as noise, diesel fumes, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and occasional outdoor elements
- Work may include wet or slippery surfaces, tight spaces, or climbing on/off equipment
- Requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting 50+ lbs safely
- All technicians receive ongoing PPE, safety training, and follow strict OSHA and company safety protocols
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on preventative maintenance experience on heavy-duty trucks, tractors, or trailers
- Ability to perform PM services to DOT and manufacturer standards with high accuracy
- Must provide a personal tool set
- Strong understanding of brakes, lubrication systems, filters, tires, lights, hoses, and safety systems
- Experience with maintenance software or digital work order systems
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL or willingness to obtain is strongly preferred
- Ability to read and follow service manuals, inspection forms, and technical documentation
- Must be able to work independently, prioritize workload, and maintain a high standard of workmanship
